ObjectiveTo evaluate the status of occupational stress and its associated factors among medicalpersonnel at community health centers in Guangzhou, while to explore their needs ofrelieve work stress, in order to provide the scientific basis for health sector to reduse thelevel of occupational stress among medical personnel.MethodsThe method of multi-stage stratified random sampling was used to get771medicalpersonnel of community health centers in Guangzhou. They were investigated by KarasekJob Content Questionnaire, Siegrist Effort-Reward Imbalance Questionnaire, self-made jobsatisfaction scale and requirements of relieve work stress questionnaire. Epidata3.1andSAS9.0software were used for data input and analysis separately. The statistic methods ofdescriptive statistics, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, single and multi-level logistic regres-sion were conducted.Results1. The results showed that744(96.50%)and448(58.11%)medical personnel werehigher level occupational stress according to the JCQ and the ERI questionnaire respec-tively. The average score of job demands, job control, social support, effort, reward andover-commitment were equivalent to the total score about71.40%,50.62%,75.35%,71.23%,67.84%and64.17%.2. The detection rate of occupational stress were different on factors of age, education, occupation, department, title, scheduling, work times per week and their tenure(P<0.05).In the dimensions of occupational stress, score of male was higher than female at jobcontrol dimension; Different age groups were different scores of reward and over-commit-ment; Score of married people was higher than the unmarried; And other factors such aseducation, occupation, department, employment type, sports and so on had different scoresat different dimension with statistic significant.3. The influencing factors of occupational stress included departments, hobbies, socialsupport, over-commitment and management system satisfaction, analysed by Multi-levellogistic regression, which consistented with the results of single-level multivariate logisticregression, expect training factors. Compared with other department, Clinical andpreventive departments tended to intense.4. The needs of relieve the occupational stress for medical personnel:(1) At the aspectof management mechanism, more medical staff desired fair (73.54%), public (67.32%) anddemocratic(64.59%) management mechanism. They also desired the leaders to close com-munication (69.00%) and strengthen coordination among the departments (71.34%).(2) Atthe hospital information system aspect,82.10%of the medical staff considered thatimproving the hospital’s information system was necessary, and about60%of thembelieved that the Community health service centers should improve information utilization,provide training of operation systems and updata equipment performance.(3) At the aspectof personal skills improving, more people are willing to participate training aboutprofessional knowledge, mental health knowledge and medical safety, and the percentagewere91.05%,71.30%and69.00%respectively. The training methods of advanced study,exchange of visits and academic lectures were more popular.(4) At the aspect of culturaland sports activities, more people liked travel (88.59%) and sports activities (64.72%).ConclusionsThe medical personnel of Community Health Center has high level of occupationalstress in Guangzhou City. The people of young, bachelor degree, doctors and nurses, clini-cal and preventive care, primary and above titles and shift operators are higher detectionrate. And the different factors have different scores in the dimensions of occupational stress. The occupational stress related factors are department, hobbies, social support, over-comm-itment and management system satisfaction. To Satisfy the expectation of medical staff onleadership management, rugulations,information system, training and so on can relievetheir occupational stress effectively.
