| Objective:To evaluate MRI-based ovarian morphology in diagnosis of unmarriedfemale patients with PCOS.Methods:Seventy-two subjects from Zhongshan Hospital Xiamen University wereenrolled from August2010to March2014, including40cases of PCOS and32casesof control group. All the subjects were examined by pelvic MRI,and the patients withPCOS were examined by both pelvic MRI and transabdominal ultrasound (TAS) tocheck the ovaries. The concentrations of testosterone (T), luteinizing hormone (LH)and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured by electro chemiluminescenceimmunoassay (ECLIA).Results:①The levels of T, LH and LH/FSH in PCOS group were higher than thecontrol group (P0.01respectively).②The display of ovarian morphologiccharacteristics with MRI was clearer than TAS. MRI could be used to increase thediagnostic rate of PCO (2=27.03,P<0.01).③In PCOS group, the mean ovarianvolume(MOV) was (10.72±3.11) cm3,maximal ovarian volume(MaxOV) was(12.39±3.95) cm3, mean fol1icle number(MFN) was (10.91±1.74) and maximalfollicle number(MaxFN) was (13.32±1.83). All were greater than controlgroup[(5.03±1.16)cm3,(5.87±1.45)cm3,(6.08±1.50) and (7.34±2.09)respectively, P<0.01respectively].④T he area underthe ROC curve (AUC) was0.963and0.987respectively for MaxOV and MaxFN. Setting the threshold ofMaxOV at8.74cm3,and MaxFN at12respectively offered the best compromise forthe diagnosis of PCOS.⑤MOV, MaxOV, MFN and MaxFN were positivelyrelated to the level of T, LH, LH/FSH (P<0.01respectively).Conclusions:In contrast to TAS,MRI provides better delineation of ovarianmorphology in women with PCO and thus has a potential role in the evaluation ofPCOS in unmarried female patients. |
