Objective: To investigate the expression of sex deterination region of Y chromosomerelated high mobilitygroup-box gene9(SOX9), caudal type homeobox transcriptionfactor-2(CDX2) and S Phase fraction (SPF) in laryngeal carcinoma and vocal cordpolyp tissues, and reveal their effects on the pathogenesis of laryngeal carcinoma. Methods: The expression of SOX9and CDX2protein in laryngeal carcinoma and vocalcord polyp tissues were detected by immunohistochemical mehods, then area density andintegrated optical density were evaluaed by microscopic image analysis system. S Phasefraction were examined by flow cytometry technique and cell cycle were computed. Results: The SOX9protein were brown yellow granules located in the nuclus and partsof cytoplasm, there was significant difference between laryngeal carcinoma and vocalcord polyp groups (P<0.01). The CDX2protein were brown yellow granules mainlyexpressed in the nucleus. The expression of CDX2in laryngeal carcinoma were higherthan that of the control group both in amount or intensity of cells, there was significantdifference between the two groups (P<0.01). Flow cytometry detection showed that SPhase fraction in the laryngeal carcinoma group were higher than that of control group, there were also significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01).Conclusion: Both SOX9and CDX2protein were expressed in laryngeal carcinomagroups and control groups, there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.01). S Phase fraction in the laryngeal carcinoma group were higher than that ofcontrol group, the difference between two groups was significant (P<0.01). The abnormalexpression of SOX9and CDX2in laryngeal carcinoma tissues, thus causse S phasefraction increased, they maybe play an important role in the development of laryngealcarcinoma.
