Objectives To analyze the levels of testosterone, estradiol and blood lipids among men agebetween40to85(Hui and Han nationalities) in Ningxia Hui Autonomos Region; To explorewhether the levels of gonadal hormones had nationality difference, and the correlationbetween the gonadal hormone concentrations and blood lipids among different age groups; toprovide foundamental infomation about the possibility of the sex hormone replacementtherapy to improve blood lipids metabolic disorders and prevention of other related diseases.Method The sunjects were recruited from five local residents’ communities in Yinchuancity and Wuzhong city in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. These five communities are longtime residential area historically. There are higher proportion of the elderly population andlower residential mobility. In this study,276male between age40-85years old were studied, the ratio of Hui and Han nationality is1:1.76. The serum testosterone (T), estradiol alcohol(E2) and total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were measured and analyzed to studythe association between the levels of sex hormones and blood lipids.Results1、T level is decreased and E2level is increased with increasing age; E2/T ratio is tended tobe increased during ageing. The statistical analysis is significant (P <0.05).2、In this survey, the dyslipidemia rate is high (89.4%) among the population studied.3、Between Han and Hui nationalities, The levels of T, E2and blood lipids are no significant difference (P <0.05).4、 T level is significantly decreased in hypercholesteremia group and the subjects with lowerlevel of HDL-C, in comparison with the control group(P<0.05).5、 The multiple linear regression analysis shows that HDL-C had significant possivecorrelation with T (P<0.05, r=0.013); T had negative correlation with TG、 TC(P<0.05,r=0.024). However, the nationality has no relevance to the T.6、 Group with lowere T level (<260ng/ml) has high incidence rate of hypertension andcoronary disease than those T higher than260ng/ml (P <0.05).Conclusions1、With increasing age, T level is decreased significantly, E2is increased.2、 The incidence of dyslipidemia is higher in the population studied (89.4%). Inhypercholesterolemia group and low HDL-C group, the T is decreased significantly comparedwith the normal group, with significant statistic differences. Futher which is proved bymultiple linear regression analysis, HDL and T was significantly positively correlated, Tnegatively correlated with TG、TC.3、 There is association between the level of T and dyslipidemia, and the incidence ofhypertension and coronary heart disease in middle-aged men.4、 The level of T, E2and blood lipids are significance difference in two ethnic populations. The study suggests:1、During ageing process, the decreased T level and increased E2level are correlated withdyslipidemia.2、The levels of T is related with the occurrence of hypertension and coronaryheart disease.3、Due to the common environment and life style in Ningxia, the differencesbetween Han and Hui nationaties are less than expected.4、From this study, we should more concern the public health, and suggest healthy life style, to be able to have earlier diagnosisand prevention of ageing related diseases.
