ObjectiveThe high prevalence rate, high incidence rate, high suicide rate, low treatment rate and the serious economic burden make depression become the second disease which do theserious harm to human health. The depression does not only do great harm to people’s physical and mental health, but also cause huge costs of society. Whether the teenager’s mental state is stable or not, is not only in relation to the teenagers’ physical and mental evelopment, but also related to social harmony and stability of families. In this paper, through the epidemiological survey of adolescent depression, we try to understand the prevalence of depression in adolescent groupr. By analysing the factors of depression prevalence, we will provide an effective scientific ideas for adolescent mental health education, and provide reference to the next stage of carrying out the epidemiological survey of depression among other group of population in Zhengzhou, and also provide scientific data for the government to make certain set of mental health policy. MethodsBased on literature review and related scale retrieval, combined with the method of expert consultation, we designed the demographic data questionnaire, and selected the Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check List(ASLEC) and Catchment-area Epidemiology Survey-Depression(CES-D). These three scales formed the questionnaire of this study. We used the questionnaire as a tool to conduct the survey by using the stratified random cluster sampling method to investigate. We chose middle school students from grade junior one to senior three, and randomly selected two classes in each grade of each school as the sample population. We had a pre-survey and then the formal investigation by distributing questionnaires on-site and had the student’s fill out it by themsevles. After the questionnaires are all regained, we used the software Epidata3.1 to establish database and input data by two different peoples, and we used SPSS21.0 and Excel2007 for statistical analysis, including description analysis, chi-square test, variance analysis, multiple factors regression analysis, etc. The level of test α=0.05. Evaluate the prevalence of adolescent depression, research the factors of the influence and status of student’s knowledge, attitude and behavior for depression. Results1、The proportion of depressive symptoms among the middle school students in Zhengzhou is 20.03%.2、There was significant correlation between middle school students’ depression prevalence and favtors such as gender, grade, social support, physical exercise, smoking or drinking alcohol, bad habits, chronic disease and family violence etc. But it had no significant correlation between depression prevalence and the living situation, the recent physical discomfort and religious beliefs. The results show that girls, high grade students, less social support students, students with smoking or drinking or other bad habits, chronic disease or domestic violence are all more prone to depression. And students who do regular physical exercise have a lower risk of depression.3、Students with different prevalence were not statistically significant in the factors of interpersonal relationship and health adaptation, and were statistically significant in other factors and the total score. In factors such as gender, grade, living condition, social support, smoking and drinking, physical discomfort, and domestic violence, some factor scores or the total score of the ASLEC were statistically significant, but there is no statistical significance in religious faith, physical training or chronic disease.4、Multivariate analysis showed that, the total scores of CES-D = 1.199+1.063× recent discomfort+0.085 × grade+0.822 × chronic diseases — 0.276 × domestic violence—0.060×social support. And after the test, the regression equation to explain the CES-D total score was statistically significant. Conclusions1、Factors that influenced middle school students’ depression prevalence status were gender, grade, social support, physical exercise, smoking and drinking, chronic disease, domestic violence and other factors.2、Factors that effected CES-D total scores of students with depression includeed the recent physical discomfort, domestic violence, social support, grade and chronic disease.3、Factors of negative life events affect different demographic characteristics of the students in different condition of depression disease.
