Objective1. To introduce The Core Competencies of nurse educators by National League for Nursing, and built a Chinese evaluation measurement form with good reliability and validity through the cultural adaptation;2. To investigate and analysis the situation and the influence factors of nurse educators’ core competencies in Henan Province universities, so to provide the basis for our nursing educators’ ability in training. MethodsThis study is divided into three parts, integrated use of the following methods.1. Tools’ development: The introduction and the revise of the Core Competencies’ evaluation standard of nurse educators provided by National League for Nursing. After getting the authorization of testing standards for licensing, we strictly follow the process of translation, back translation, localization, adjustment and revision of the standards. Through the semantic analysis, we built a Chinese evaluation measurement, suitable for professional teachers of nursing in core ability evaluation. To verify the applicability and psychometric characteristics of this evaluation form: choosing a total of 282 nursing educators by convenience sampling(the first stage was 77, second stage was 205), using the homogeneity reliability to evaluate the internal consistency degree of this form; using exploratory factor analysis to test the structural validity of the questionnaire, using the content validity index to compute the expert content validity.2. Investigation research: Using the general information questionnaire and the nursing educators’ core competencies assessment scale as research tools. Using convenience sampling method in Henan province which has 14 undergraduate colleges and 20 formal authorizations of the higher vocational college selected 205 professional educators according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Collect relevant data and do statistically analysis.3. Qualitative research: Using the phenomenological method, conduct semi structured in-depth interviews 11 nursing educators in Colleges and 13 nursing educators in higher vocational colleges. And using the qualitative data analysis method of Colaizzi, to explore the influencing factors of educators’ core competencies, and promote the core competencies of the teachers training. Results1. Tools development: The experts of nursing education, education and other related fields discuss the cultural relevance. They have modified the statement of the four items. The evaluation of reliability and validity of the results: The Cronbach α of the Nursing educators’ core competencies assessment scale was 0.971, and all the dimensions of the Cronbach α coefficient respectively in 0.851 ~ 0.905. Guttman Split-Half split half coefficient is 0.875. The 24 people being investigated were tested when being selected and retested interval of 2 weeks. The two measurements show that the correlation coefficient of the entries of the nursing educators’ core competencies assessment scale is between 0.705 ~ 0.803( p<001.0), the total correlation coefficient of 0.756( p<001.0). Paired t test shows that there is no significant difference between the scores of all items and two measurement points( p>05.0). This study used content validity index to evaluate the content validity. The CVI of the Nursing educators’ core competencies assessment scale is 0.863. The content validity index of the scale entries is from 0.8 to 1. The results of principal component analysis and factor analysis and varimax rotation of the Nursing educators’ core competencies assessment scale select 8 factors: learning and reflection, practice and teaching, assessment and evaluation strategies, curriculum design, innovation promoting, professional quality, scientific research, management and leadership, the cumulative variance contribution rate is 67.009%.2. Investigation research: The nursing professional teacher’s core ability level has certain promotion space. This study reports higher levels of learning and reflection. But the management and leadership, innovation promoting ability levels are low. The nature of the work of nursing teachers’ scores of core competence has significant difference( P<05.0). Total score of academic qualifications and titles have no significant difference. But the score of teachers who have master’s degree and undergraduate degree has statistically significant difference( P<05.0). And different gender, the nature of inauguration institutions, age, position, department, years of working, years of teaching, average income monthly, marital status of nursing teachers’ professional core competencies evaluation scores had no statistical difference( P>05.0).3. Qualitative research: The interview recordings of 24 nursing educators were transcribed. Through the text encoding and refining, the interview recordings can be summarized as three first grade subjects: developing the core competencies, avoiding restricting factors, expanding the training methods. Conclusions1.The psychometric properties of the Nursing educators’ core competencies asses sment scale is well, and the revised edition has 66 items.It is a self-rating scale, in whi-ch all the questions are closed, and its psychometric characteristics are proved good through the reliability and the validity examination, can be used to evaluate the core competencies of nursing educators.2.Firstly,evaluate the nursing educators’ core competencies according to the Chin-ese version, then make effective and personalized training solutions. In addition,they can see what needs to change and enhance the core competencies.3. Qualitative research more in-depth analysis and discuss the influence factors of core competence of nursing teachers and the training mode.
