GoalThrough a comparative analysis between the 2009 and 2012 editions of National Essential Medicine List for Primary Care Section (abbreviated NEML in texts below), differences and similarities between various types of pharmaceutical products are noted. Those that are included in each province’s version of the NEML but not in the national are taken into consideration as well to improve the completeness and wholesomeness of the selection process for pharmaceutical products inclusion. This paper also aims to provide evidence for mass production and management of basic drugs.MethodsUsing the 2012 Edition of the NEML as guide, traditional Chinese medicine is used to search for related products and then analyzed by Microsoft Excel, which showcased the production and market availability of traditional Chinese drugs.By comparing the dosage, effects, and method of ingestion of traditional Chinese drugs included in the NEML 2009 and 2012, both linear and non-linear regression models were created to exhibit production of these drugs. In the paper, examples are given to showcase specialized traditional Chinese medicine in Henan and their prices, dosage, and method of ingestion.ConclusionWithin the 203 traditional Chinese medicine of NEML-2012, those fitting for medical usage are categorized into six classes and twenty types. It is recommended to include the unit of dosage into the Manual and to format the method of selection of ingredients of these 203 drugs. More control should be acted upon the management of specialized medicine types and a drug manual for children specifically should be included as well. Safety would also be a major issue and should be kept in mind when creating these manuals.
