ObjectivePatients with dysfunction in extensor digitorum and extensor carpi caused by radial nerve injury as the chief complaint are very common on clinic. This kind of dysfunction is always treated with operation, acupuncture therapy and functional exercise. This research is to calculate and evaluate the clinic efficacy of treating dysfunction in extensor digitorum and extensor carpi by using new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis with rehabilitation exercise and compare it with traditional dynamic orthosis, exploring the difference and theory of both two kinds of orthosis.MethodsWe randomly divided 60 patients who have visited the outpatient department and the in-patient department of our teaching hospital from Oct.2013 to Aug.2014 into two groups according to single blind method. One of them wore the new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis and the other group wore traditional dynamic orthosis. Explore and evaluate the efficacy of both two kinds of orthosis by measureing or counting the flexibility of the wrists and fingers, the power of wrist volar flexion returning to the neutral position under the assistance of orthosis, carpal dorsiflexed myodynamia, the grip, the live ability, the satisfaction of patients and the adverse reaction rate. The primary reference standard is the 2000-year version of tentative standard of upper extremity function constituted by the Chinese institute of hand.ResultsThe clinc clinical test results shows that patient treated by using new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis with rehabilitation exercise had significant improvements in the flexibility of the wrists andfingers, the power of wrist volar flexion returning to the neutral position under the assistance of orthosis, carpal dorsiflexed myodynamia, the grip and the live ability after a 5-month treatment. The improvement of the flexibility of the wrists and fingers are more significant in the group treated by wearing the new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis. Both two kinds of orthosis are proved to be effect when using as a replacement of the original hand function. Though having a inhibition to the grip, the new designed orthosis turns out to show less obstruction. Patients’living ability when wearing new designed orthosis are better and they have more satisfaction with the new designed orthosis. The adverse reaction rate is 0 in both two groups.Conclusion1.It’s effective to treat the dysfunction in extensor digitorum and extensor carpi caused by radial nerve injury by using new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis in company with rehabilitation exercise.2.The new designed wrist and finger dynamic orthosis shows more advantage comparing to the traditional one.
