PURPOSE:To evaluate the effect of bioactive glass toothpaste or fluoride toothpaste on preventing enamel erosion when the toothpaste is used instantly or 30min after eroded. There are two parts of the experiment as following:1.Effect of Two Toothpastes on Enamel Remineralization and Anti-demineralization in Different TimePURPOSE:To evaluate the effect of bioactive glass toothpaste or fluoride toothpaste on reminerlization and the capacity of resisting erosion when used instantly after eroded or 30min after eroded. METHODS:50 enamels were prepared from bovine incisors, divided into 5 groups of 10 specimens each and treated by bioactive glass toothpaste or fluoride toothpaste instantly or 30min after being immersed in Sprite drink in advance. The changes of the surface micro-hardness (SMH) were measured. Then the specimens were immersed in Sprite drink again, and the changes of the SMH were measured a second time. The data was processed with SPSS20.0 software package. The morphological changes of surface were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). RESULTS:The SMH values of the specimens immersed in Sprite drink and then treated with bioactive glass toothpaste were higher than fluoride toothpaste groups (P<0.05). For the specimens treated with fluoride toothpaste immersed in Sprite drink in advance, the SMH value of group treated 30min after being immersed was significantly higher than instant group (P=0.035). After being immersed a second time, the SMH values of bioactive glass toothpaste groups were significantly higher than fluoride toothpaste groups (P<0.05). Under the SEM, the enamel surface appeared solvation and remineralization after bioactive glass or fluoride treatment. CONCLUTION: Bioactive glass toothpaste promoted the remineralization effects of demineralized enamel, and enhanced the resistance of enamel to Sprite drink erosion. There was no different that useing bioactive glass toothpaste instantly or 30min after eroded on enamel.2. Brushing Abrasion of Eroded Enamel Using Two Toothpastes in Different time in Vitro StudyPURPOSE:To evaluate the effect of bioactive glass toothpaste and fluoride in toothpaste on brushing abrasion of enamel immediately and 30min after eroded.METHODS:56 enamels were prepared from bovine incisor, and were embedded in acrylic resin with buccal surface of each exposed. The buccal surfaces were ground flat exposing an area of 6mmx6mm and two amalgam fillings were placed into enamel and polished and ground flat. All specimens were divided into 7 groups of 8 specimens each. For 6 groups, specimens were brushed with ordinary toothpaste, fluoride toothpaste, bioactive glass toothpaste immediately and 30min after eroded. The last 1 group was brushed with ordinary toothpaste without being eroded as control. The treatments were cycled 60 times. After treatments the surface between two amalgam fillings of each specimen was profiled with a surface profilometer. The average depth of the abraded part of the specimens between two amalgam fillings compared with respective amalgam reference surfaces was finally calculated. The data was processed with SPSS 20.0 software package. RESULTS:Abrasion depths of teeth brushed with bioactive glass toothpaste were less than that with fluoride toothpaste at the same brushing time(P<0.05). The abrasion depths of teeth brushed 30min after eroded were less than that bushed instantly after eroded(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS:Use of bioactive glass toothpaste can substantially reduced enamel loss caused by eroding and brushing. The loss can also be reduced while teeth are brushed 30min after being eroded.CONCLUSIONS:Compared to fluoride toothpaste, bioactive glass toothpaste has a better effect of remineralization, anti-demineralization and reducing the wear of brushing. Though bioactive glass toothpaste is not affected by the time after being eroded, you should brush your teeth 30min later after acid diet when use it.
