Objective:A randomized controlled trial to compare the rehabilition and the effect of internal fixator after operation for lumbar disc herniation. One group began waist and back muscle exercise 1 week after operation, another 3 three months. This study tried to explore the effect and the feasibility of early exercises of lumbar muscle after operation of lumbar disc herniation.Meathods:One hundred patients suffered in operation for lumbar disc herniation, who recruited beween February 2013 and January 2014, was divided into two groups randanly. There was 50 patients in the group of exercises beginning 1 week after opetation and 50 patients in the group of exercises beginning 3 months after opetation. Tow groups done the exercises for 1 year. We observed the VAS score 1 day before operation,1 week,3 months,6 months and 1 year after operation. We observed the ODI score 1 day before operation,3 months,6 months and 1 year after operation. We observed the situation of internal fixator 1 day,3 months,6 months and 1 year after operation, such as breakage, start. We also compared the cross-sectional area of paraspinal muscles and their changes preoperation and postoperation and beteew two groups. Results:There had no significant differences between two groups in year, the level of operation, course of disease, gender and so on. After 1 year follow, there were 6 patients losed information and 4 patients exited study in the group of exercises beginning 1 week after opetation. While there were 5 patients losed information and 5 patients exited study in the group of exercises beginning 3 months after opetation. There had no significant differences between two groups in frature and loosen of internal fixator and stability of spine. There had no significant differences between two groups in VAS score 1 day before operation,1 week after operation, while significant differences 3 months,6 months and 1 year after operation. There had significant differences 3 months,6 months and 1 year after operation. There had no significant differences between two groups in cross-sectional area of paraspinal muscles 1 year postoperation. Moreover, there had no significant differences between two groups in the change of cross-sectional area of paraspinal muscles. Conclusion:Early exercises is feasible after operation lumbar disc herniation, which had no effect for internal fixator. It could improve the pain and the function of lumbar and decrease the atrophy of waist and back muscle.
