Objective:With the development of our living standards, the prevalence of stroke is increasing. Ischemic stroke which features are high rate of morbidity, disability, death, accounted for about 70% of stroke. Stroke is the leading cause of death in China, bringing heavy economic burden and pressure to our country and families. The study about that the people were all from the high risk group of stroke, which provide foundation and evidences to primary prevention of stroke, aimed to evaluate the condition of atherosclerosis and it’s associated with LDL-C in Chengdu, Sichuan. Methods:The cross-sectional survey of the high risk participants was conducted by cluster sampling from the communities(Caotang and Supo community)between January 2014 to December 2014. Data are from testing CIMT and carotid plaques by color Doppler, and automatic biochemical analyzing blood sample. We analyzed the association between atherosclerosis and LDL-C by univariate analysis and multiple-factor analysis. The data is established by Epidata 3.1 software, and is registered twice. The data is analyzed by continuous variable and classified variable by SPSS 16.0 software. The percentage(%) represent enumeration data, and mean±standard deviation (X±s) represent measurement data. The statistical methods of the study are t-test, chi-square test, Multiple Linear Regression and logistic regression analysis. All P-value were two-side and significant difference was set at P-values< 0.05.Results:There are about 24355 permanent residents in Caotang and Supo community in Chengdu, Sichuan. The number of high risk people of the study are 3572 not including the participants of history of stroke (male=1435, female=2137). The average age, BMI, SP, DP, FBG, TC, TG and HCY is 63.83±10.54,24.52±3.21 kg/m2,128.11±11.53mmHg,73.60±6.31mmHg, 6.26±1.90mmol/L,4.91±1.34mmol/L,1.85±1.47mmol/L,10.84μmol/L,respectiv ely. The number of people who no smoke and no drink are 1959 (54.84%).The average of LDL-C is 2.75±0.93 mmol/L, and the average thickness of CIMT is 0.76±0.18mm. The prevalence of atherosclerosis is 45.62%, and the percentage of CIMT thickening and carotid plaque in atherosclerosis is 11.44% and 34.18%, respectively. the percentage of hypoechoic carotid atherosclerotic plaque is 26.2%. CIMT are positively associated with LDL-C levels, The CIMT thickness were increased markedly when the LDL-C levels were more than 1.8mmol/L,CIMT thicken 0.00517mm with the level of LDL-C increase 1 mmol/L (P<0.01).With the adjustment of multiple-factor, the risk detection of the more than or equal to 2 of carotid plaques in high risk population of stroke are more than 1.897 times when the LDL-C values of more than 2.6mmol/L compared with those whose LDL-C levels less than 1.8 mmol/L(OR:1.897,CI:0.989-2.401,P:0.039); and more than 2.65 times when the LDL-C values of more than 4.9mmol/L compared with those whose LDL-C levels less than 1.8 mmol/L (OR:2.650, CI:1.812-3.321,P:0.014)Conclusion:It has been shown that the high risk populations of stroke have higher rates of carotid atherosclerosis in Chengdu of Sichuan Province, which occurs with high levels of LDL-C. The risks of CIMT thickness were increased when the LDL-C values of more than 1.8mmol/L, and the risk of hypoechoic carotid atherosclerotic plaque was increased when the LDL-C values of more than 2.6mmol/L. So, LDL-C is an independent risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis in high risk populations of stroke in Chengdu.
