Objective: Based on the principle of being all-sided, safe, effective as well as controllable, the standard of the Medicago sativa L.seeds in current ”pharmaceutical standards from the ministry of health in China(uyghur medicine section)” should be revised and the quality standard of Medicago sativa L. seeds should be established and perfected.Methods: According to "Pharmacopoeia"(2010 version), identify Medicago sativa L. seeds and the characters were described;Medicago sativa L.seeds microscopic identification;TLC;extracts of Medicago sativa L.seeds, water ethanol extract and petroleum ether extract of Chinese chemical constituents of pre experiment; content determination of trigonelline,total polypheno and total polysaccharides, including linear relation test, precision test, stability test, precision test, recovery test, durability test, content determination.Results: The contents of impurities, moisture, ash, sour insoluble ash should not exceed 8.0 %, 10.0 %, 6.0 %. the water extract, alcohol extract of Medicago sativa L. seeds may contain organic acids, phenols, tannins, sugars, amino acids, peptides, proteins, flavone, coumarin, lactone,saponin, does not contain anthraquinones, cardiac glycosides and other components; trigonelline content in Medicago sativa L. seed is not less than 0.9739mg/g.The contents of polysaccharides and polyphenols were 22.34 ~ 53.43mg/g and 3.03 ~ 4.88mg/g.Conclusion: the content of trigonelline in Medicago sativa L. seeds is not less than 0.9%.The experimental methods were accurate and reliable, and the indexes and parameters may be thought as the quality standards and further development and utilization for the Medicago sativa L. seeds and provide a foundation for the future use of it.
