Objective:To investigate the relationship between ALDH2 gene rs671 polymorphism and essential hypertension in a Han population in Xinjiang. Methods:Taqman assay was performed to screen the polymorphism of ALDH2 gene rs671 in 474 EH patients and 358 normotensives.Result:(1) In males, the frequency of GA+AA genotype and A allele of rs671 was significantly lower in drinkers than that in non-drinkers (all P<0.001). (2) Among males, the frequency of GA+AA genotype and A allele of rs671 was significantly lower in patients with EH than in controls (P=0.006, P=0.007). Among females, here was no significant difference in the distribution of genotypes and allele of rs671 between EH group and controls group (P=0.202,.P=0.108). (3) Logistic regression analysis adjusted for confounding factors including drinking for men showed that carriers of GA+AA genotype had an decreased risk of EH, compared to GG genotype (OR=0.656, 95%CI:0.448-0.962,P=0.031).(4) In male drinkers, the systolic blood pressure was significantly lower in subjects with GA+AA genotype than those with GG genotype (P =0.021);but this association was not observed in male non-drinkers and females. Conclusion:For Han males, ALDH2 gene rs671 polymorphism was associated with the development of EH, while GA+AA genotype might be an influencing protective factor on EH. |
