ObjectiveTo investigate exercise status of senile diabetes mellitus patients in Shanghai.MethodsIn this study, research tools include general information, disease indicators, Leisure-time Physical Activity Level Questionnaire (LPALQ), specific exercise questionnaire for senile diabetes mellitus(SEQ-SDM).493 cases of senile diabetes mellitus patients were cross-sectionally surveyed in Endocrinology deparment of Huadong hospital affiliated to Fudan University.Data collected were checked after two people, and then input into SPSS 19.0 statistical software for data analysis in Statistical methods including descriptive analysis, t-test, analysis of variance,%2 test, multiple linear regression analysis,etc.Results1.General InformationA total of 493 cases were studied, male 234 cases (47.5%), female 259 cases (52.5%). Age:60 to 79 years old,the average age (70.19 ± 7.49) years old. Disease duration:1.5 to 32 years, mean disease duration (13.28 ± 8.34)years.Diabetes complications of 461 cases (93.5%),among them, there were 179 cases (36.3%)in the presence of one or two kinds of chronic complications,201 cases (40.8%) of three or four kinds,81 cases (16.4%) of five or more kinds;the highest prevalence of chronic complications were successively:peripheral neuropathy (65.5%), hyperlipidemia (49.5%), coronary heart disease (47.7%), stroke (31.6%), hypertension (24.3%), peripheral vascular disease (13.6%), retinopathy (5.7%), and diabetic nephropathy (1.6%) successively.2.Disease Indicators(l)Sugar metabolism:average HbAlc value was(8.57%±2.13%) (6.45%~ 12.89%), average GA value was (23.53±3.55 mmol/1) (16.45-32.89mmol/l);(2)Lipid metabolism:average BMI value was (24.23±3.95 Kg/m2)(18.72±34.34 Kg/m2),average TG value (2.03±0.92 mmol/L)(1.51±3.91 mmol/L), average HDL-C value (0.83±0.05 mmol/L) (0.39±1.01 mmol/L), average LDL-C value (3.05±0.98 mmol/L)(2.39±4.01 mmol/L);(3)Diabetic nephropathy:average urinary albumin/creatinine value (3.56±1.83 mg/mmol) (1.39~4.31 mg/mmol).3.The survey showed the top ten sports items engaged in at least 10 times by 493 cases in the past 12 months were successively:walking, climbing stairs, playing chess, dancing, playing cards, cycling, playing badminton,gardening/yard work, running, playing table tennis. According LPAL< 10 Mets-h/week belonged to not-exercise group,10 Mets-h/week≤ LPAL≤39.9Mets-h/week to moderate-low-level exercise group, LPAL≥40Mets-h/week to high-level group, participants were graded levels of exercise:not-exercise group 301 cases (61.1%), moderate-low-level exercise group 161 cases(32.6%), and high-level 31 cases(6.3%).LPAL total scores of 493 cases were (9.87 ± 3.13 Mets-h/week) (3.01-58.33 Mets-h/week).Comparing with Gucan’s fingdings, LPAL scores and the constituent ratio of participants has a significant difference during groups, and 493 cases of participants’daily exercise habits are poor (P<0.05, P<0.001).4.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, age, education level, resident status, disease duration and number of diabetic complications significantly affect the Senile Diabetes Mellitus patients’leisure-time physical activity level in Shanghai (P<0.01, P<0.001).5.SEQ-SDM total point was (68.33+7.51) (35-175) and its index score was 39.0%, the five projects’points were:exercise knowledge (22.06± 5.00)(11 to 55) points, exercise will (12.80 ± 2.78) (7 to 35) points, exercise behavior (13.03 ±2.15) (6 to 30) points, professional support (11.88± 1.21) (7 to 35) points, social support (8.56 ±1.36) (4to 20) points. And their index scores were 40.1%、36.6%、43.4%、 33.9%、42.8% respectively.6.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that education level, family support level, monthly income, diabetic complications and BMI value significantly affect the patients’SEQ-SDM total and its five projects’scores (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.001).Conclusions1.Senile diabetes mellitus patients have a poor daily exercise habits in Shanghai,not-exercise group share a larger proportion, and moderate-low-level exercise which is suitable for SDM patients with a smaller proportion of the exercise group; gender, age, education level, resident status, disease duration and number of diabetic complications are the main factors affecting the level of daily exercise.2.Specific exercise of senile diabetes mellitus patients is in poor condition in Shanghai, and professional support’s point is the lowest;education level, family support level, monthly income, diabetic complications and BMI are the main factors affecting the specific exercise status.3.For different situations of senile diabetes mellitus patients, it is recommended to develop motion prescription according to patients, duration and sickness, so patients can receive safe and effective exercise program.4.Pay attention to the affecting factors of exercise, and suggest hospitals combining with community and family to carry out the targeted exercise intervention to improve exercise levels, and promote recovery from disease.
