Objecive: To evaluate the diagnostic value of 2D-US combined with CEUS in differentiating between thyroid malignant masses and benign masses. Methods:After taking the routine two-dimensional ultrasound and color Doppler examination,95 patients with 100 thyroid lesion symptoms underwent contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging. According to the modes of enhancement, the thyroid nodules woule be divided into following four typies: inhomogeneous, homogeneous, ring enhancement and non-enhancement. The diagnostic yield of 2D-US and CEUS, and combination of them were assessed for differentiating between the malignant and benign thyroid masses. Results:2D-US diagnostic results of 54 benign nodules,2 were malignant nodules,44 were benign nodules,8 were unidentified nodules.2D-US diagnostic results of 54 malignant nodules,22 were malignant nodules,2 were benign nodules,22 were unidentified nodules. In CEUS enhancement of 46 malignant nodules,38 with inhomoheneous,4 with homogeneous,4 with ring enhancement,0 with non-enhancement. In CEUS enhancement of 54 benign nodules,5 with inhomoheneous,7 with homogeneous, 40 with ring enhancement,2 with non-enhancement. Inhomogeneous pattern predicted thyroid malignant nodules with sensitivity of 82.6%, specificity of 90.7%, and accuracy of 87%. The combination of 2D-US and CEUS diagnosed thyroid malignant nodules with sensitivity of 87.0%, specificity of 92.6%, and accuracy of 90.0%. Conclusion: The combination of 2D-US and CEUS had higher sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma,and could improve the capability of differertiation of thyroid malignant and benign nodules.
