Objective: The present research aimed to test the influences of two methods—theumbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine or umbilical moxibustion only, onprimary dysmenorrheal patients. The differential impacts were compared anddescribed,and the function of medicine on the primary dysmenorrheal syndrome wereevaluated. Also the mechanism of action of umbilical moxibustion was illuminated.Methods:60primary dysmenorrheal patients were randomly assigned to two testgroups, with30in the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine group and30inthe control group. To observe changes in TCM symptom scale, and to compare differencesamong the two groups.Results: Comparing with before treatment, there was no difference in the twogroups(P>0.05). And there was difference between the two groups after each period oftreatment(P<0.05). There was difference between before and after treatment in each groupseperately(P<0.05). In addition, the two groups were significantly different(P<0.05) inthe curative effect of abdomen ache and some syndrome of blood stasis and qi stagnation afterthe treatment.Conclusion: the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine group and the onlyumbilical moxibustion group can greatly relive clinical symptoms and can reduce TCMsymptom scale of primary dysmenorrhea patients. the umbilical moxibustion with herbalmedicine group has a better therapeutic effect than the only umbilical moxibustion. Inaddition, the umbilical moxibustion with herbal medicine method was far more advancedin TCM symptoms such as abdomen ache and some symptoms related to blood stasis and qi stagnation than the control group.
