Objective:We analyze the etiology, manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of malignant melanoma of the head and neck, so as to provide the importance of early detection and early treatment.Methods:We collect7cases of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College in the past5years (Jan.2009to Dec.2013). And the cases are all diagnosed malignant melanoma by pathology. We report the clinical features, pathological characteristics, treatment and prognosis to analyze the disease combine with the literatures.Results:We have6male cases and1female case, the average age is58years. The disease region:pars palatalis(1case), the upper gingiva(2cases), the lower gingiva(1case), the submaxilla region(1case), the buccal region(1case) and the parotid gland(1case). The treatment:expectant treatment(1case), surgery only(2cases), surgery+radiotherapy(1case), surgery+chemotherapy(1case), surgery+chemotherapy+immunotherapy(1case), surgery+cryotherapy+chemotherapy+immunotherapy(1case).3to36.5months’follow-up has been taken.5patients do not have a relapse,1patient has lymph node metastasis and1patient is dead.Conclusions:Elderly people have more chance to get the disease. In the early stage, we can find the suddenly enlargement and change of shape of the nevus and swelling with pigmentation when it is in mucous. And it appears ulcer, pain and bleeding in the later. We diagnose malignant melanoma with pathology. Surgery is its main treatment. Chemotherapy, immunotherapy and values of treatments can be useful sometimes. But its prognosis is poor in any way. Early detection and early treatment is very importance of the treatment of malignant melanoma.
