Research On The Academic Thoughts Of LI Xu Yuan Jian

Qi Shi lived about in last years of Ming dynasty, and his details were unaware, such as the era of his birth and death, his hometown etc. There is only one book handed down, Li Xu Yuan Jian, which is mainly talking about vacuity taxation. The thesis through the research of five main areas, which are his biography and work; his academic thoughts and the original roots of the thoughts; the causes, symptoms, pulse conditions, therapeutic methods; the relationship with other works; impact on later generations, summarized Qi Shi’s theories about the treatment of vacuity taxation. In hope for give a hand to modern clinical and basic theories.Through setting and analyzing relevant materials, this thesis speculated that Qi Shi maybe a hermit in the last years of Ming dynasty, the era he lived might before the year1644; his surname of "Wang" is incredible, and "Qi Shi" might be his alias; the area he lived in was Jiangsu province.Qi Shi’s main thought about dealing with vacuity taxation called "three basics and two governs", this thought rooted from Huangdi Neijing, meanwhile combined with experiences came from older generations and theories of Neo-Confucianism in Song and Ming dynasty. There are two kinds of vacuity taxation, yin vacuity and yang vacuity. When cured yin vacuity, lung was the most important organ. But this vacuity taxation of lung was not the same with tuberculosis. In Qi Shi’s opinion, in the last period of lung vacuity,"worm" could be breed, and developed into tuberculosis, which was infectious. Yang vacuity was mostly worn out spleen and kidney yang, in this case, save center qi was the most important.This book contains the causes of vacuity taxation, main disease patterns, symptoms, pathomechanism, pulse conditions, distinguishing between similarity diseases, principle of treatment, principle in choosing formulas and herbs, preventive measures and health care, etc. Among those causes, iatrogenic factors were affirmed by later generations. Emotions were taken seriously in the period of vacuity taxation, from the occurrence and development of disease to the treatment of disease. About disease patterns, Qi Shi mainly classified them from five viscera; in the treatment, clearing metal to prevent the lung, banking up earth to adjust middle, adjusting metal and water, these are three basic principles. When distinguish similar diseases, most of them had bleeding symptom. Besides, Qi Shi remaindered us that such related factors should be considered in the course of curing vacuity taxation, such as parents of patients, spouse and relatives.It can be found that Li Xu Yuan Jian had a close relationship with Yi Xue Zheng Chuan; while Shen Rou Wu Shu was written by Hu Shenrou, also in the last years of Ming dynasty, but they had different ideas about consumptive disease.In formulas of clearing metal to prevent the lung, there were many herbs enrich yin of lung and stomach, which was considered the pioneer of enriching and nourishing stomach yin before Ye Tianshi. And many formulas recorded in this book are efficient in modern clinical.
