1.ObjectiveThe opportunistic fungus Candida albicans and the bacteriumStaphylococcus (St.) aureus are among the leading nosocomial pathogens. C.albicans is often found with bacterial species in polymicrobial biofilms in thehost environment. C. albicans-S. aureus polymicrobial biofilms often infectscritically ill patients, with high morbidity and mortality. The purpose of thestudy is to analyze the correlation between Candida albicans genesCDR1/CDR2and resistance to azole antifungal in Candida albicans-Staphylococcus aureus polymicrobial biofilms.2MethodsStandard Candida albicans strain SC5314, standard Staphylococcusaureus strain ATCC25923, and catheter-related infection clinical strain weretaken as the object of study. By using the method of drug sensitivity invitro, resistance to azole antifungal drugs of various biofilms were comprised. At last, the mRNA expression level of Candida albicans genes CDR1/CDR2were tested by RT-PCR analysis, analyzing the correlation of CDR1/CDR2and resistance to azole antifungal in Candida albicans-Staphylococcusaureus polymicrobial biofilms at the same time.3Results3.1Candida albicans-Staphylococcus aureus polymicrobial biofilms was more resistant to Fluconazole than C. albicans biofilms.3.2The level of CDR1/CDR2mRNA expressions was higher in Candidaalbicans-Staphylococcus aureus polymicrobial biofilms, And the mRNAlevel between them had statistical significance (P<0.05).4ConclusionsThe resistance to azole antifungal in Candida albicans-Staphylococcusaureus polymicrobial biofilms was related to the mRNA level of Candidaalbicans genes CDR1/CDR2...
