Objective:Summarize and analysis the clinical and pathological features, biological behavior, each subtype of features, diagnostic criteria anddifferential diagnosis, treatments and prognosis of Laryngealneuroendocrine carcinoma (LNEC).In order to improve the understandingof the disease and the optimization of diagnosis and treatment plan. Methods:The data is collected by the Otolaryngology Department in theSecond Affiliated Hospital of Jilin University where6cases werediagnosed with LNEC from December2008to December2014. By usingHE staining and immunohistochemical staining, we observe itspathological features, summarize its clinical features, and find the relationbetween them. And we also use the reference from both domestic andforeign published literatures for analysis.Sum the data up and concludethe diagnosis, treatment strategies and prognosis of the disease.Result:Three pathological results are found: atypical carcinoid (AC)(4/6),typical carcinoid(TC)(1/6), laryngeal small cell neuroendocrinecarcinoma(LSNEC)(1/6).The original symptom is various:3cases of ACpatients are with the chief complaint of pharyngalgia,1case is withhoarseness. The LSNEC one is with dysphagia. And the TC case is with pharyngalgia. Three AC cases and the LSNEC one were diagnosed withcervical lymph node metastasis pathologically after the initialsurgery. These cases were followed up for5to55months, one patientreceived the induction therapy with chemoradiation, while the others didnot undergo further disposal. The tumor-free survival rate is4/6(to theend of follow-up),2cases underwent reoperation with cervical lymphnode metastasis. Conclusion:Laryngeal neuroendocrine carcinoma is a very rare disease inclinic, and its diagnosis depends on pathological examination, especiallyby immunohistochemical examination which provides great help to thediagnosis of this disease. Its original symptoms may be pharyngalgia, hoarseness, difficulty in swallowing, abnormal sensation of throat orother symptoms. The early symptoms of this disease is not obvious, thelesions mostly located in submucosal, and some types are prone totransfer to cervical lymph node. The biological behaviors of varioushistological subtypes vary greatly. And treatment programs should beformulated based on specific subtype and invading sites.
