Objective:To investigate the etiology, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment methods and prognosis of bilateral upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma, try to improve the diagnosis and treatment of bilateral upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma. Methods:Retrospective analyses of8cases with bilateral upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma in our hospital from1998to2015, and6of the cases were followed up. We make statistical analysis of the clinical features, treatments, prognosis and the ways of operation in all the cases after comparison. Results:In these cases, the maximum age is82years old, and the minimum age is35years old.4patients were the synchronous bilateral urothelial carcinoma. And4patients were non-synchronous bilateral urothelial carcinoma; the interval time of the secondary tumor was6months to20years. All of the patients had painless hematuria. All cases were confirmed diagnosis by ultrasound CT IVP and ureteroscopy.7patients underwent operation, while1patient did not for some reasons. The postoperative pathology of7patients showed papillary transitional cell carcinoma of urinary tract. Patients were followed up for3months to10years,1patient without operation was dead,2patients were died of postoperative renal dysfunction,5cases were survived, the followed up patients were all without distant metastasis or recurrence of tumor. Conclusion:bilateral upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma are rare in clinical. In order to prolong the survival and the living quality of the patients we must carefully consider the patient general condition, and select the appropriate way of operation and postoperative chemotherapy scheme in both the synchronous or non-synchronous bilateral upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma.
