Background and Purpose:Galectin-3is regarded as a novel marker of chronic heart failure and is closelyrelated to the occurrence and development of heart failure. Numerous studies wereabout the association between the galectin-3and chronic heart failure. However,studies were rarely evaluated and summarized systematically. This paper aims toevaluate the prognosis relation between serum galectin-3level and chronic heartfailure(CHF) by meta analysis and provide relevant reference for the clinicaldiagnosis and prognosis evaluation of chronic heart failure.Methods:Literatures which involved relation between galectin-3and CHF prognosis were searched in Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, CNKI and WANFANG Databases.All literatures were assessed by the inclusion and exclusion criteria,quality assessment. Hazard ratio (HR) and95%confidence interval (CI) in each literature were extracted for meta-analysis using STATA12.1software. The stability and reliability were evaluated by sensitivity analysis and publication bias analysis.Results:Ten literatures complying with the requirements were included. The results of heterogeneity test are as follows:1. When the influence of other factors were not excluded, heterogeneity test showed that P=0.000,I2=89.2%,heterogeneity exists in different studies, sostatistics were combined using a random effects model.The combined HR of univariate analysis was1.36and95%CI was1.23~1.50. The results show that when the influence of other factors were not excluded, high serum levelof galectin-3is a risk factor for heart failure prognosis.2. When the influence of other factors were excluded,heterogeneity test showed that P<0.001,I2=68.4%, heterogeneity exists in different studies, so statistics were combined using a random effects model.The combined HR of multivariate analysis was1.17and95%CI was1.07~1.26. The results show that when the influence of other factors were excluded,high serum level of galectin-3is also a risk factor for heart failure prognosis.3.Sensitivity analysis showed that when the largest study were excluded,thecombined HR of univariate analysis was1.54and95%CI was1.32~1.77;thecombined HR of multivariate analysis was1.26and95%CI was1.09~1.42.whenthe smallest study were excluded,the combined HR of univariate analysis was1.34and95%CI was1.20~1.47;the combined HR of multivariate analysis was1.15and95%CI was1.06~1.24.This result means that the meta analysis results of this studyis relatively stable.Conclusion:1.Serum level of galectin-3increase significantly in patients with chronicheart failure.2.High serum level of galectin-3may be an independent risk factor for poorprognosis of CHF patients.3.Galectin-3for the diagnosis of chronic heart failure has important clinicalvalue.
