AimTo investigate the correlation of different indexes for evaluating Crohn’s disease activity, including capsule endoscopy Crohn’s disease activity index (CECDAI). Lewis Score、simplified CDAI (sCDAI) and serological indicators include hemoglobin count (HGB)、red blood cell distribution width (RDW)、platelet count (PLT) C reactive protein (CRP)、erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and serum albumin (ALB)MethodsFrom April2009to April2014, the data of120patients with Crohn’s disease were collected from the first affiliated hospital, Zhejiang University. The CECDAI, Lewis Score, sCDAI, CRP and ESR were analyzed by Spearman Correlation.ResultsThere was a significant difference in the onset age according to the gender with a high morbidity in young men (P=0.001).And the rate of diarrhea was high in female patients (P=0.043). The rate of incomplete small bowel examination was lower in young patients than in the old patients (P=0.009). Diarrhea and a high level of CRP were easily observed in patients with lesion both in small intestine and large intestine. The rate of abdominal pain was higher in patients with high scores in sCDAI or CECDAI than in low scores. And the significant differences were also observed in RDW, PLT, CRP, ESR, serious anemia and hypoalbuminemia according to the socres (P<0.05). The CECDAI had a high positive correlation with CRP and ESR (P<0.05) in all patients,in patients with complete small bowel examination, in patients with lesion only in small intestine and in patients with lesion both in small intestine and large intestine, but a negative correlation with ALB(P<0.05). Furthemore, sCDAI had a high positive correlation with CRP or ESR (P<0.05). The scores of CECDAI only have a correlation with the scores of Lewis in patients with incomplete small bowel examination (r=0.567, P<0.001), but no significant correlation with the scores of sCDAI or serological indicators (P>0.05). The scores of sCDAI had a positive correlation with PLT, CRP and ESR, but no correlation with the socres of CECDAI, Lewis Score, HGB, RDW and ALB (P>0.05). However, The Lewis Score had no correlation with sCDAI and serological indicators (P>0.05)ConclusionsThe CECDAI is the bset index in term of evaluating the Crohn’s disease activity. And the Lewis Score, the sCDAI, HGB, RDW, PLT, CRP, ESR and ALB partly reflect the level of mucosal inflammation in patients with Crohn’s disease.
