ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in T3a stage rectal cancer patientsMethods60cases of rectal cancer patients in our hospital between2012.1-2013.12were analyzed retrospectively, including30cases with preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and30patients without the treatment of neoadjuvant therapy. All patients underwent a radical resection. The3-year-survival and postoperative recovery were observed and the oncological outcomes of these two groups of patients were contrastively analyzed.ResultsIn the30patients of neoadjuvant treatment group, there were22cases with downstaging tumor and the ratio was73.3%. Pathological complete response (pCR) was found in3cases in this group (10%). Postoperative anastomotic stenosis was found in4and1cases in the experimental group and the control group. Respectively, the number of case with anastomotic fistula and haemorrhage was3cases and1case. All side effects were mild and well tolerated. There were2and4patients had local recurrence in these two groups of patients, and distant metastasis were happened in4cases and5cases. The3-year-disease-free survival (DFS) were75.8%and69.5%, P>0.05.3-year-overall survival (OS) of experimental group was89.3%,which was80.6%in the control group. The survival of patients in two groups had no significant difference.ConclusionNeoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for rectal cancer patients with stage T3a stage not only reduce the tumor size but also the tumor stage.patients can achieve complete response and have a improved Sphincter preserving rate. The3-year-DFS and OS have no statistical difference.
