| Objective Previous studies have shown, E-cadherin and Ezrin play a potential role in a variety of cancers, they participate in several functions including cell adhesion, motility. This study tested and analysed the expression of E-cadherin and Ezrin in normal cervical epithelium, CIN and cervical cancer tissues, to investigate the significance of E-cadherin and Ezrin in the progress of cervical cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin and Ezrin in 46 cases of cervical cancer,19 cases of CINâ…¡-â…¢, 21 cases of CINâ… , and 20 cases of nomal cervical epithelium tissue samples. Results The expression of E-cadherin was located in cell membrane of nomal cervical epithelium and cytoplasm of part basal cells. In the nomal cervical epithelium 〠CINâ… ã€ CINâ…¡-â…¢ and cervical cancer, the cell membrane positive expression rate of E-cadherin were 95.0%ã€85.7%ã€68.4%ã€43.5%, the expression was gradually decreased or missing, there were significant difference among them(P=0.000),and the expression in cytoplasm was gradually increased. The expression of E-cadherin was significantly associated with histological grade(P﹤0.05)and pelvic lymphnode metastasis(P﹤0.05), there was no significant association with age(Pï¹¥0.05).The expression of Ezrin was located in the interior side of cell membrane of nomal cervical epithelium. Expression of Ezrin in cervical cancer was focal, nests or scattered, positive cells mainly located in the cytoplasm, partly in the cytoplasm and membrane. In the nomal cervical epitheliumã€CINâ… ã€CINâ…¡-â…¢ and cervical cancer, the cytoplasm positive expression rate of Ezrin were 10.0%ã€28.6%ã€47.4%ã€73.9%, the expression was gradually increased, there were significant difference among them(P=0.000).The expression of Ezrin was significantly associated with histological grade(P﹤0.05)and pelvic lymphnode metastasis(P﹤0.05), there was no significant association with age(Pï¹¥0.05).In the 46 cases of cervical cancer, the expression of Ezrin and E-cadherin were negative correlation(r=ï¹£0.458,P=0.001).Conclusions In the process from normal cervix to cervical cancer, the expression of E-cadherin in cell membrane was gradually reduced, and the expression in cytoplasm was gradually increased,The expression of Ezrin in cytoplasm was gradually increased, E-cadherin and Ezrin may both participate in the progress of cervical cancer. In the 46 cases of cervical cancer, the expression of E-cadherin and Ezrin was significantly correlated with histological grade and pelvic lymphnode metastasis, there was no correlated with age, the expression of Ezrin and E-cadherin were negative correlation, Ezrin may control the position of E-cadherin in cells. |
