Objective: To investigate the expression of human epidermal growth factoreceptor-3(HER3) in colorectal cancer, analysis the relationship of its expression with the clinical and pathological features of colorectal cancer(sex, age, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, tumor size, histological differentiation, disease location, gross type, etc.), and study the possible significance. Methods: The specimens were taken from 100 colorectal cancer tissues from Apr 2013 to Mar 2014 in the affiliated tumour Ganzhou Renmin hospital of Nanchang university. All tissue specimens by routine HE staining are confirmed by two pathologist in our hospital. All patients before surgery without line transfusion, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Include of 52 cases of male, 48 cases of female; aged between 25 and 80 years, with an average age of 60.48 years; 41 cases of invasive metastasis had occurred lymphatic metastases, 8 cases had occurred distant metastases; 40 cases tumor volume greater than or equal to 5 cm, 60 cases small than 5 cm; 8 cases of poorly differentiated, 88 cases of differentiated and 4 cases of well differentiated; 12, 43, 37, 8,cases of clinical stageⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ; 15 cases of the cecum, 11 cases of ascending colon, 6 cases of transverse colon, 5 cases of descending colon, 12 cases of sigmoid colon,51 cases of rectum; 38 cases of mass type, one case of invasive type, 61 cases of ulcerative type. Immunohistochemistry En Vision method was used to evaluate the expression of HER3 in 100 colorectal cancer tissues and 100 normal colon tissues from our hosiptal.Results:1.HER3 is expressed both in Colorectal cancer tissues and normal Colorectal tissues, but there is overexpression of HER3 in Colorectal cancer, and the no overexpression rate of HER3 in normal Colorectal tissues(P<0.05).2.The overexpression rate of HER3 in the Colorectal cancer tissues with metastasis was 75.00%;the rate of other coloretal tissues was 42.39%(P=0.02).3.The overexpression rate of HER3 was 16.67% in the Colorectal cancer tissues of stageⅠ, 51.16%in stageⅡ, 64.86%in stage Ⅲ, 75% in stage Ⅳ(P﹤0.05). 70.73% cases with metastasis of lymphnode have overexpression expression of HER3,while only 40.68% cases without metastasis of lymph node(P=0.03).Conclusions:1.The overexpression of HER3 is elevated in colorectal cancer tissues, and its overexpression is significantly associated with clinical stage metastasis of lymph node and pathology type of colorectal cancer.2. HER3 overexpression status may prognosticate colorectal cancer tissues with more malignant level, more increased metastatic potential.3.HER3 may be a potential targeted therapy of colorectal cancer, the inhibition of the expression of HER3 could suppress the occurrence of colorectal cancer.
