Study On Hypolipidemic Activity Of Ethanol Extract From Suaeda Salsa

Suaeda salsa, an herb halophyte belonging to chenopodiaceae, is rich in flavonoids. Studies have shown that flavonoids have a variety of biological activities such as lowering blood lipid. In this paper, the effect of ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa on lowering blood lipid in hyperlipidemic hamsters and its mechanism was explored.In this paper, flavonoids of ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The column was C18 column. A binary H2O-0.4% formic acid (solvent A) and acetonitrile (solvent B) gradients was used for elution. Detection wavelength was 280nm. It was showed that ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa contains rutin, dihydroquercetin, luteolin, naringenin and hesperetin.The male hamsters were divided into five groups, including the normal group, the model group and three intervention groups administered with Suaeda Salsa extract at doses of 0.75%,1.5%and 3.0%. The relevant indicators were detected after six weeks.The results indicated that ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa could significantly reduce the content of total cholesterol (TC), non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) and triglyceride (TG) (p<0.01,p<0.05). The lipid levels indicator TG/HDL-C and atherosclerosis index (AI) was reduced significantly from the high-dose group in hyperlipidemia hamsters.The content of TC in liver tissue was reduced significantly from high-dose group in hyperlipidemia hamsters (p<0.05). The content of TC in feces was increased significantly from high-dose group and the content of TG in feces was increased significantly from the middle-dose group and high-dose group (p<0.05,p<0.01). It indicated that the intake of ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa could promote the excretion of cholesterol and triglycerides.The content of MDA was reduced in serum and liver and the activity of cholinesterase was reduced in serum with the increase of ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa.The liver, fat and arterial tissue slices of hamsters were observed by HE staining, and ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa could improve the pathological symptoms effectively.By detecting the mRNA expression of the enzymes in hyperlipidemia hamster liver related to cholesterol metabolism, ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa could increase the mRNA expression of LDL-R and reduce the mRNA expression of HMG-CoA-R significantly.The results of above experiments showed that ethanol extract from Suaeda Salsa has an obvious effect on lowering blood lipid.
