Research Objective:Analysis the application and teaching effects of problem based learn ing(PBL) combined with m ultimedia technology in clin ical internship of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. To enrich the teachin g resources of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Sur gery and establish the open and standardized multimedia database. PBL teaching fosters students’ self-directed learning, im proves students’ comprehensive ability, stimulates students’ learning interest and improves the utilization of network recourses. Research object:52 seven-year program medical students in 2010 grade of Nor man Bethune Health Science Center of Jilin University, 50 seven-year program medical students in 2011 grade of Norman Bethune Health Scienc e Center of Jilin University, and 10 graduate students of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in the First Hospital of Jilin University. Research methods:(1) To compile the PBL cases according to the teaching syllabus, to establish a PBL multimedia database.(2) The students of seven-year program medical students in 2 010 grade teach in traditional method, the students of seven-year program medical students in 2011 grade and the graduate students of Ot olaryngology-Head and Neck Sur gery teach in PBL. Using SPSS18.0 statistical software analysis the fi nal examination results of Otolaryngology between 2010 and 2011 grade.(3) To survey the students of 201 1 grade in class and after class with self-m ade questionnaire survey. The questionnaire ha s good reliability, using S PSS18.0 statistical software analysis the variation of the contents of the questionnaire.(4) Interview with the clinical teachers, analysis the difference in accepting th e PBL learning between the students of 201 1 grade and the g raduate students of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Research Results:(1) After one ye ar preparation, we have estab lished a PBL multimedia database, including 12 typical cases of diseases, covering all the contents of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.(2) Analysis of the final examination results of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery between 2010 and 2011 grade, we found that PBL internship students’ score(84.26±4.50) is higher than the traditional inte rnship students’ score(82.68±5.86), P=0.08>0.05, the difference is not statistically significant.(3) Analysis the Alpha coef ficient of the questionnaire survey which filled by students of 2011 grade in and after class, the scor e is between 0.8-0.9, it believed that the questionnaire internal reliability is acceptable.(4) Self-evaluation of comprehensive ability(language expression ability, communication ability, self-learning ability) of poor students reduced from 25%-30% to 10 %-15%, P<0.05.(5) Before and after teach ing, the students’ interest in Otolaryngo logy increased from 80% to 95%, the students’ active participation increased from 14% to 76%, and the passive participation reduced from 62% to 20%, P<0.05.(6) Before the curriculum implementation, 78% students hope th e traditional teaching reform. After the curriculum 88% students accepted PBL. Com pare the students of 201 1 grade in and after class with questionnaire survey, we found that PBL teaching improves the ability of expression、communication and self-directed learning, stimulates students’ learning interest and improves the utilization of network recourses. Research Conclusion:(1) The PBL teaching method combined with multimedia technology is superior to the traditional teaching method in clinical internship of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.(2) The PBL teaching m ethod combined with m ultimedia technology can s timulate students’ learning interest, improve the ability of expression 、 communication and self-directed learning, and improve the utilization of network recourses.(3) Students who have received the PBL based medicine teaching are more receptive to the teaching mode of PBL.
