Acute pulmonary embolism is a kind of dreadful cardiopulmonary disease. It is easily misdiagnosed and missed due to the lack of specificity of clinical manifestations. In recent years, researches in acute pulmonary embolism are numerous, which improve the consciousness of the diagnosis and treatment of this disease and make acute pulmonary embolism become a common and frequent disease. But now,attention paid to the clinical process of after acute pulmonary embolism and the knowledge of it are still insufficient. This paper summarizes several severe complications which patients surviving acute pulmonary embolism are going to experience and face, such as recurrent venous thromboembolism,chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension,arterial thrombeombolism, and increased risk of death.
