Objective Comparative study the efficacy and safety of intravitreal injection ranibizumab alone or combined triamcinolone acetonidein the treatment of repeated or continuous CRVO-ME.Methods Using the controled clinical study, we collected 38 patients(40 eyes) with repeated or continuous CRVO-ME which were injected ranibizumab 0.5 mg in the vitreous cavity for the first time then it was completely randomly divided as R group and R+TA group under the condition of patients’ informed consent. In R group 20 cases (22 eyes) were performed injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg, meanwhile in R+TA group 18 cases(18 eyes) were performed vitreous injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg and triamcinolone acetonide 1 mg. The following necessary treatment are decided by the result of OCT (we gave repeated vitreous injection for patients with macular center concave retinal thickness larger than 250 μm).Then we took the best corrected visual acuity, IOP, slit lamp as well as indirect ophthalmo-scope examination of each group 1,2,3,4,5,6 mo after respe-ctive treatment, especially comparing their changes on CMT and BCVA.Results Compared with former treatment, both CMT and BCVA of each group have improved obviously in 1,2,3,4,5,6 mo, the difference before and after treatment has statistical significance (P< 0.05), yet the difference of all the indicators between the two groups has no statistical difference (P>0.05). Besides, the frequency for inje-ction is (2.61±0.92) times in R+TA group, with (4.05±0.65) times in R group.Differences between data of the two groups has statistical significance (P=0.00).No complications were founded in R group, while 2 cases with elevated intraocular pressure and 1 case of corti-cal cataract were observed in R+TA group. Conclusion Whether the intravitreal injection of ranibizumab alone or combined triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of repeat-ed or continuous CRVO-ME can red-uce macular edema and improve eyesight, the treatment effect has nosignificant difference.Combination therapy can reduce the frequency of injection, while it may increas ethe risk of cataracts, glaucoma.
