Objective:To understand the situation of overweight and obesity in high school students and explore the related factors, a prevalence investigation was conducted in two senior high schools in Siping City, which was to prevent and relieve the students’ overweight and obesity, and to provide reference for the development of quality education and healthy of middle school students. Methods:By random cluster sampling, two high schools were chosen randomly from three high schools in Siping City, and four classes of each grade and a total of 602 students were conducted. The survey containing a questionnaire survey, the height, the weight. After the general description to the result, the incidence rate of overweight/obesity was counted, and the subjects in the survey were divided into non overweight/obesity and overweight/obesity on the base of BMI. The distribution of the sex, grade, physical activity and exercise, diet situation, video time, sleep condition, and mental situation were described respectively in each group and made comparisons of count data by Pearson χ2. Basing on the single factor analysis, gender, grade, greasy food, irritability, and easily offended were brought into the multinomial logistic regression for analyzing the correlation between these factors and overweight/obesity. We assumed the P as 0.05, that is, P<0.05 was considered to have statistical significance.Resuit:1.The overweight rate of senior high school students in Siping City was 11.96%, the obesity rate was 7.38%. The overweight and obesity rate were 22.95% in male and 15.02% in female. There was significant difference between them(P=0.026).2.The overweight and obesity percentage was 9.42% in Grade One, 23.69% in Grade Two, and 22.58% in Grade Three. There were significantly differences between them(p=0.002).The overweight and obesity percentage in Grade One was significantly lower than that in Grade Two(χ2=12.278, P<0.001) and Grade Three(χ2=7.633, P=0.006).3.The percentage of the lack of exercise and physical activity was 46.43% in female and 28.66% in male. The rate of female was significantly higher than that of male(P<0.001). The percentage of the lack of exercise and physical activity was 20.86% in Grade One, 42.77% in Grade Two and 35.42% in Grade Three. There were significant differences among grades(P<0.001). The percentage of Grade Two was significantly higher than that of Grade One(χ2=20.001, P<0.001), The percentage of Grade Three was significantly higher than that of Grade One(χ2=6.129, P=0.013).4.The average daily video time of Grade One was 2.46 ± 2.43 h, that of Grade Two was 3.71 ± 3.00 h, that of Grade Three was 2.50 ± 2.86 h, which were statistically different at the level of P<0.001.5.The overweight and obesity percentage of the senior high school students who ate greasy food less than 3 days per month was 15.25%, which was the lowest. The percentage who ate greasy food 1-3 days per week was 24.66%, which was the highest. The percentage of who ate greasy food more than 4 days per week was 18.57%. There were statistical differences among groups at the level of P=0.044.6.From Monday to Friday, the average daily sleep time of Grade One students was 7 ± 1 h and that of Grade Two was 7 ± 2 h, which were statistically different at the level of P<0.001 compared with that of the Grade Three 6 ± 1 h. The average daily sleep time of the grade one students was significantly higher than that of Grade Three(χ2=18.045, P<0.001), the average daily sleep time of Grade Two students was significantly higher than that of the Grade Three(χ2=19.364, P<0.001).7.The overweight and obesity percentage of the students who never feel dysphoric and irritable was 11.69%. The percentage who felt dysphoric and irritable in 1-3 days per month was 15.67%. The percentage of people who felt dysphoric and irritable in 1-3 days per week was 25.90%. The percentage of people who felt dysphoric and irritable in more than 4 days per week was 25.90%. The overweight and obesity percentages for various frequency were statistically different at the level of P=0.015.8.The gender, grade, diet and mental condition were the risk factors for overweight and obesity:(1) Gender: The female was a protective factor of overweight and obesity, and the risk for female was 0.051 times as that for male.(2) Grade: The risk resulting in the overweight and obesity rose as grades increasing. The risks of overweight and obesity in Grade Two and Grade Three students were respectively 3.278, 2.849 times as that of Grade One students.(3) Mental condition: Feeling dysphoric and irritable was a risk factor of overweight and obesity. The risk of overweight and obesity students who felt dysphoric and irritable in 1-3 days/month, in 1-3 days/week, and in ≥4 days/week were respectively 1.550, 3.046, 2.777 times as those students who never feel dysphoric and irritable. Conclusion:1.The overweight percentage was 11.96% and the obesity percentage was 7.38%, which manifested that the overweight and obesity was serious healthy problem among the senior high school students in Siping city.2.The male gender was an independent risk factor of overweight and obesity. The male gender should be intervened as high risk population by health education to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity.3. The grade was another independent risk factor of overweight and obesity. School and family factors should be paid attention for prevention and intervention of obesity in the senior high school students.4. Feeling dysphoric and irritable was also an independent risk factor of overweight and obesity. The intervention of obesity should pay attention to the influence of psychological and mental factors, so that the high school students have a healthy attitude toward life.
