Rosemary, which has a variety of biological activities has been widely used in food, medicine, and daily chemical industry, and other fields. In this paper, the hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic activities of rosemary extracts were evaluated using C57BL/6 mice and Kunming mice as the animal models. The results of the studies are as follows:1. The hyperlipidemia mice were induced by a High-fat diet, The relevant indicators were investigated after the mice were fed with rosemary extracts at doses of 0.25%,0.5% and 1.0% in dietary for 12 weeks. The results show that:① rosemary extracts adding dietary can significantly and very significantly reduce the value of total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG) and non-high density lipoprotein cholesterol(non-HDL-C) in serum, increase high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) in serum, and also reduce the overall target TG/HDL-C and atherogenic index(AI) of lipid levels. Dose groups compared with model group, the liver TC and TG levels were significantly reduced(P<0.05, P<0.01). This indicates that rosemary extracts has hypolipidemic effect. ② Rosemary extracts could significantly and highly significantly reduce the contents of MDA, increase the activities of SOD, CAT and GSH-PX (P<0.05, P<0.01). Therefore, it showed that rosemary extracts have strong antioxidant effects. ③ Rosemary extracts could significantly and highly significantly reduce blood glucose levels of hyperlipidemia mice, enhance the Cholinesterase (CHE) activity in serum and liver (P<0.05, P<0.01), it showed that rosemary extracts could reduce the liver injury to a certain extent. ④ The results of pathological section showed that rosemary extracts exhibited significant inhibitory effects on the fatty degeneration in liver.2. The diabetic mice were induced by High-sucrose-fat diet with intraperitoneal injection of STZ. The mice were fed with rosemary extracts at does of 0.25%,0.5% and 1.0% in dietary during 12 weeks, the relevant indicators were investigated. The results showed that:① During the feeding period, the fasting blood glucose value of low dosage group has been rising, but it has a lower increase compared with the model group; the fasting blood glucose value of middle dosage group was significantly reduced in the fourth week (P<0.05); the high dosage group could significantly and highly significantly reduce the fasting blood glucose value in the second and fourth week (P<0.05, P<0.01). And rosemary extracts could improve sugar tolerance, reduce GSP levels of diabetic mice (P<0.05, P<0.01). This indicated that rosemary extracts had hypoglycemic effect. ② Rosemary extracts could reduce significantly and highly significantly ALT activity and AST activity, Cr and BUN levels in serum of diabetic mice, this indicated that rosemary extracts could improve the liver and kidney fuctions of the mice.Based on the results of above experiments, it showed that rosemary extracts has hypolipidemic and hypoglycemic effect.
