Health is a basic right of human beings, but also an important resource, which has an important influence on people’s life quality and development prospect. Under the market economy system, people’s ability to obtain income and income levels have a certain gap, and the income gap will be transformed into human health differences. In order to improve the health of people, the medical insurance system has been established in many countries. The medical insurance system in our country has been endowed with the goal of improving the health level of residents. In theory, the medical insurance system, as an important social security system, has the obvious function of risk transfer and compensation, which can improve the health of the residents. However, in the context of China, the medical insurance system has some characteristics of fragmentation and the income and medical insurance system has the potential of endogenous, the actual effect of the two will affect the health of our residents to be investigated. This study based on the data of Chinese family tracking survey, empirical analysis of the relationship between the level of income, health insurance and the health of the residents of our country. The results show that the income level has an important influence on the health of residents in China. Absolute income and the health of residents were significantly positive correlation, while the relative income and the health of residents showed a significant negative correlation. The larger the relative income gap, the worse the health status of residents, and the impact is mainly reflected in the rural residents. Health insurance has a positive effect on the health of residents, which can alleviate the negative effect of income gap on the health level, but the effect of different medical insurance system is different, and the effect on health of urban workers is significantly higher than that of urban residents medical insurance and new rural cooperative medical insurance.Based on the above conclusions, this study further explored the mechanism of health insurance and income level to affect the health. The results show that the income and health insurance affect the health of the way, the absolute income by improving the way of life of the residents to improve their health level; relative income through the allocation of health care services to the health level of residents. And medical insurance is to improve the health level of residents by improving the level of medical service utilization. The research results of this paper have important policy implications, in improving the health level of residents, we should focus on improving the medical service utilization, and optimize the allocation of medical service resources.
