Objective To compare the clinical effect on the cutaneous nerve anastomosis of cutaneous flap for reconstruction of soft tissue defects in foot and ankle. Methods From 2005 to 2012,83cases with soft tissue defects in foot and ankle were repaired by using cutaneous flap.50 cases were repaired by sural neurovascular fasciocutaneous flap.33 cases were repaired by antero-lateral thigh perforator flap. All the cases were followed up postoperatively after 3 months.Comparative study of reconstruction outcomes, coverage, patients satisfaction with flap appearance and donor-site morbidities were performed between the groups. Results The study included 83 patients,50 with sural neurovascular fasciocutaneous flap and 33 cases were repaired by anterolateral thigh pe-rforator flap. In patients treated with sural neurovascular fasciocutaneous flap, results showed 96% flap survival. In cases treated with the anterolateral thigh perforator flap,100% flap survival.Quality of life and functional results at receiving site were similar for both groups. Conclusions Sural neurovascular fasciocutaneous flap companied with anterolateral thigh perforator flap are relatively ideal operative type for the repair of soft tissue defects in foot and ankle.
