| ObjectiveTo evalute the variation of fasting serum Pentraxin3(PTX3) levels and its role in the development of patients with newly-diagnosed polycystic ovarian syndrome( PCOS).Methodspatients and 67 controls were selected and each group was divided into normal weight subgroup( PCOS-NW and Control-NW) and overweight /obese subgroup( PCOS-OW/OB and Control-OW/OB) according to the body mass index( BMI) <24kg /m2 or ≥24 kg /m2.Collecting nameã€ageã€menstrual cycle and delivery history of all the obejectives by questionnaire survey.Height,weight,waist circumstance( WC) and hip circumference were measured. BMI,waist-hip ratio( WHR) and HOMA-IR( homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance) were calculated.Serum triglyceride(TG), total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein(HDL),lowdensity lipoprotein(LDL),luteinizing hormone(LH), follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), testosterone(T) level were also measured.All the subjects experienced a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test after 8 hours overnight fasted. Fasting blood glucose(FBG),postprandial 2h blood glucose(P2h BG) and fasting insulin( FINS) were measured.Blood samples were used for measuring PTX3.Results1. TGã€LHã€LH/FSHã€Tã€FBGã€P2h BGã€FINSã€HOMA-IR were significantly higher in PCOS group than control group(P<0.05);There were no difference in age, BMIã€WCã€TCã€HDLã€LDL between PCOS group and Control group;but there was lower LHã€LH/FSHã€T level in Control group than PCOS group(P<0.01). Compare to PCOS-OW/OB subgroup, BMIã€WCã€WHRã€TGã€FBGã€P2h BGã€FINSã€HOMA-IR were lower in PCOS-NW subgroup(P<0.01); while HDL ã€LH were higher(P<0.05). BMIã€WCã€WHRã€TGã€P2h BGã€FINSã€HOMA-IR were higher in Control-OW/OB than Control-NW( P<0.05, P<0.01),while HDL was lower(P<0.01).2. PTX3 was significantly lower in PCOS group than control group(P < 0.01); Concentrations of fasting serum PTX3 in PCOS-NW and OW/OB subgroup were significantly lower than those in control-NW,OW/OB subgroup(P<0.01).Compare to PCOS-NW and Control-NW subgroup,there was lower PTX3 level in PCOS-OW/OB and Control-OW/OB(P<0.05,P<0.01).3. Fasting serum PTX3 level was found correlate negatively with BMI,FBG,P2 h BG,FINS and HOMA-IR(P<0.05);Multiple stepwise regression analysis demonstrated that FBG was the influencing factor of serum PTX3 level; Binary logistic regression analysis showed that PTX3 was the protective factor of PCOS.Conclusions1.There existed significant hyperandrogenemiaã€hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance in PCOS patients;2.The serum PTX3 level may play a very important role in the development of PCOS.Lower PTX3 level may be a risk factor in the development of PCOS. |
