Objective:This randomized study compared polyethylene glycol(PEG) VS magnesium sulfate for bowel preparation in patients undergoing colonoscopy and assessed the drugs efficacy and tolerability. Methods:238 patients(male 139 cases, female 99 cases, mean age 53.51±11.18 years old) during December 2014 and February 2014 in the xinjiang uygur autonomous region people’s hospital undergoing colonoscopy were assigned to receive one of the two bowel preparation regimens(PEG VS magnesium sulfate). Before colonoscopy patient were randomly divided into A,B two groups: Group A(133 cases), take orally four boxes of complex polyethylene glycol electrolyte powder +3000ml warm water as drugs for bowel preparation; Group B(105 cases), take 50%magnesium sulfate solution 100 ml + glucose and sodium chloride injection 1500 ml as bowel preparation drugs. Main outcome measurements were bowel preparation quality and patient tolerance. Results:This study included 238 cases of hospitalized patients, randomly divided into A and B two different treatment groups, group A(PEG),133 patients, group B(magnesium sulfate) 105 cases, complete bowel preparation, colonoscopy and questionnaire survey. Efficacy: group A there was 62.41% cases for adequate bowel preparation, group B intestinal well-prepared rate was 66.67%, there was no statistically significant difference between group(P>0.05); Polyp(<5mm polyps)discovery rate of group A was 22.89%, B group of polyps found rate 21.42%, there was no statistically significant difference between group(P>0.05). Tolerance: Group A tolerance rate was 95.27%, group B resistance rate was 94.43%, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P <0.05); The incidence of adverse reaction of group A was 9.02%; Group B was 9.52%, two groups compare the incidence of adverse reactions, the difference was statistically significant(P <0.05).Conclusion:Polyethylene glycol(PEG), magnesium sulfate, the two drugs as intestinal preparation beforecolonoscopy, both drug efficacy quite;PEG for intestinal cleaning tolerance than magnesium sulfate, lower rate of adverse reaction. So in the case of colon cleaning effect is quite, polyethylene glycol(peg) as a less adverse drug reactions for intestinal preparation,in patients with high tolerance, but magnesium sulfate is more cheap drug.
