Hypertension and Cardiovascular disease (CVD) are the main cause of mortality among different ethnic groups. However, the ethology of hypertension and CVD is slightly different among different ethnic groups. Increased arterial stiffness is a negative prognostic indicator for hypertension and cardiovascular health. Different ethnic groups have different level of arterial stiffness which could impact the etiology of both hypertension and CVD. Both African American and Chinese living out of China have been found to have stiffer blood vessels versus Caucasians. Since the conditions existing in China are different from those outside of China we cannot assume AA have stiffer blood vessels versus Chinese college students. With the basic of the review, comparing the related arterial stiffness indicator between African American and Chinese. The aim of the study is to determine whether Chinese college students experience stiffer blood vessels versus African American. In order to prevent atherosclerosis, decreasing the morbidity and mortality from CVD in the further.76 students were used who identified themselves as African American (total:38, men:30,women:8) and Chinese (total:38,men:30,women:8), were aged 18 to 25 years, African American students were selected from Southern Connecticut State University in the U.S. with 38 Chinese students from East China Normal University in China. The hypothesis is African Americans have significant stiffer arteries versus Chinese. This study uses the literature material methods, experimental method, mathematical statistics and other scientific research methods to making fully analysis. Within the scope of the study, the results were following:1. Chinese college students arterial stifiness index as African American students are higher than other races, attention should be paid.2. Weight, body mass index and diastolic indexes exist significant differences between the two ethnic groups.3. There is no correlation relationship between pulse wave velocity and systolic blood pressure, denied the previous view which of the systolic pressure is the determining factor of pulse wave velocity.
