Objective: To compare the effect of temozolomide combined with radiotherapy, nimustine combined with radiotherapy and radiotherapy alone on glioma. Methods: In the 5-year study, 197 patients with histologically confirmed glioma, in which 66 patients received radiotherapy followed by temozolomide(Group I), 64 patients received nimustine combined with radiotherapy(group II) and 67 patients received radiotherapy alone(group III). Results: The effective rate of chemotherapeutic drugs combined with radiotherapy(group I and group II) was better than radiotherapy alone. The recent effective rates of these three methods were 66.7%,35.9% and 19.4%(H=32.69,P<0.05). 1year survival rate of Group I was slightly higher than group II and group III. There was no statistical significance between Group II and group III in long-term survival rate. Conclusions: The patients of glioma treated with chemotherapeutic drugs combined with radiotherapy obtained a statistically significant better benefit of survival than those treated with radiotherapy alone. Temozolomide therapy was better than the other therapies. But nimustine therapy was failed when compared to radiotherapy alone. The larger series of patients and randomized controlled trial(RCT) are needed for further confirmation.
