Objective:To discuss the effectiveness and safety of ozone water treatment on knee osteoarthritis.Methods:40 patients who were diagnosed with KOA were treated as the research objects between March and December 2015. By using the method of random number table the patients were divided into experimental group (group A) and control group (group B), with 19 patients in each group. Each group was treated with Intra-articular injection once a week, for 3 weeks as a course of treatment. The patients of group A were injected with 10ml of medical ozone water(23μg/ml), The patients of group B were injected with 10 ml of 0.5% lidocaine analgesic compound liquid(With 40 mg of methylprednisolone). The VAS score, WOMAC score and Lysholm knee score and the side effects of both groups were observed at time-point To(before the treatment),T1 (first treatment),T2(second treatment),T3(third treatment),T4(1 week after the treatment),T5(2 months after the treatment),T6(23months after the treatment). Results:The VAS score, WOMAC score of both groups were significantly decreased (P< 0.05), the Lysholm kneel score was significantly increased (P< 0.05).Comparing in each group showed the VAS score, WOMAC scores, Lysholm knee score maintained the best level in time-point T1-T4 (P< 0.05), and all the scores had a modest recovery in T5, T6 and T4(P< 0.05). Comparing between groups showed the VAS score, WOMAC score, Lysholm knee function score in group A at each time-point were higher than which in group B (P< 0.05). The main side effect of the treatment was pain coursed by the puncture. The morbidity of group A and B were 66.7% and 33.3%, and the difference was not statistically significant between the two groups (P>0.05), No serious side effects, such as infection, allergy, cardiovascular reaction had occurred.Conclusion:Intra-articular injection of medical ozone water in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis could significantly relieve pain and improve recovery of function of knee, and was superior to intra articular injection of methylprednisolone in both efficacy and safety.
