| Object Since the 1950s, modified radical mastectomy has been widely used, and one of the current commonly used methods to close the incision is routine intradermic suture. The purse-string suture method widely used in general surgery treatment, can shrink incision, provide certain tension, and reduce postoperative bleeding. We explore the feasibility of purse-string suture for the closing incision of the modified radical mastectomy compared to the intradermal suture. Methods A retrospective analysis of 62 cases(group A) who were underwent purse-string suture with nylon thread for modified radical mastectomy and 74 cases(group B) who underwent directly intradermal suture from June 2015 to March 2016. Operative time, blood loss, the number of lymph nodes removed, postoperative drainage, drainage time, postoperative seroma, and skin flap necrosis incidence were compared between the two groups. All data of these patients were from the first affiliated hospital of Guangxi medical university. Results There was no difference between the two groups as regards the number of lymph nodes removed, operative time, flap necrosis rate, and subcutaneous fluid(P=0.386,P=0.413,P=0.186, P=0.587,respectively). The patients in purse string suture group yielded more blood loss, significantly less postoperative drainage and significantly less postoperative drainage time compared with intradermal suture group (P<0.001, P<0.001 and P<0.001, respectively). Conclusion The method of purse string suture for the closing incision of the modified radical mastectomy has the value of popularization. |
