ObjectiveInvestigate the risk factors influencing functional dyspepsia(FD) patients with poor quality of life and related symptoms, to guide the clinical diagnosis and treatment of FD in the future, and help to carry out related clinical trials and experimental studies.MethodsThere were 116 patients with functional dyspepsia(FD) who were hospitalized in Department of Gastroenterology in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from January 2009 to December 2015. Among them 96 cases with relative complete information were chosen in the present. Clinical characteristics of these patients, such as medical histories, presented symptoms, physical signs, and the scores of Short Form-Nepean Dyspepsia Index(SF-NDI) were recorded. Statistical evaluations were carried out using the SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 19.0 software package. Statistical evaluation was performed by means of T’ test and one-way ANOVA for continuous variables, followed by Tukey’s honestly significant difference test when appropriate. Categorical variables were evaluated using Pearson’s ?2 test and Fisher’s exact test, and regression analysis was used for risk factors. Values of P<0.05 were considered statistically significant.Results1.In 96 patients(41 men and 55 women;mean age 57.45±12.34 years;range 26 to 80 years), there were 33.33% of patients with mild functional dyspepsia, and 66.67% with moderate or severe symptom of functional dyspepsia. Among them 52.09% of cases suffered from Postprandial Distress Syndrome(PDS), 27.08% of cases suffered from epigastric pain syndrome(EPS), and 20.83% of cases suffered from PDS and EPS.2. Univariate analysis showed that weight, BMI, HP and anxiety were risk factors(P<0.05).3. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that BMI and anxiety were the independent risk factors for FD. The odds ratio(OR) of BMI was 1.711, and 14.575 for anxiety. It was also found that there was statistical significant positive correlation between BMI and anxiety with the FD patients’ quality of life and related symptoms.ConclusionBMI and anxiety disorders might be independent risk factors for FD. In the clinic it was suggested that high BMI and anxiety disorders should be paid more attention in FD patients.
