Objectives:Based on previous laboratory research, the purpose of this clinical study is to observe and evaluate retention rate of resin-based sealant, flowable composite resin, compomer, and glass ionomer cement combined with certain self-etched adhesive system in 3,6 and 12 mouths, to verify previous experimental results. In order to explore a convenient, effective and time-saving approach which can be applied in less developed areas of Western China. Methods:Selected the four maxillary premolars of every single volunteer (50 total) as a group, sampled with stochastic indicator random number is divided by 24 modulo determine each group of four maxillary premolars sealing materials(EC:self-etching adhesive+resin-based sealant; EZ:self-etching adhesive+flowable composite resin; ED:self-etching adhesive+compomer; GC:glass ionomer cement)Results:There were different levels of retention rate for each group. Using self-etching bonding systems, with resin-based sealant got the lowest retention rate in3,6,12 months were as follows:59.99%,10.49%,6.50%%, and the average operating time was 165.16 seconds. Flowable composite resin group 3,6,12 months of retention rates were:90.55%,50.77%,31.84%, and the average operating time: 171.46 seconds. Compomer group got the highest retention rates in 3,6,12 months were as follows:81.79%,79.12%,68.38%%, and had got the average operating the longest time 179.96 seconds. Glass ionomer group 3,6,12-month retention rates were: 63.88%,41.37%,27.82%, and had got the shortest average operating time:62.10 seconds. There were significant differences (P< 0.05) operating time for each two different groups. Conclusions:Under the condition of simple equipment with the implementation of self-etching bonding system fissure sealing operation, the retention rates were lower than similar experiments. The retention rate of resin-based sealants was the lowest. The retention rate of flowable composite resin in short-term (3 months) was the best, but decreased significantly in six months. The retention rates of fluid resin+ self-etching adhesive system was higher than that of resin-based sealants group. The retention rate of compomer was the highest in long-term (6-12 months). Under the operating time, glass ionomer cement showed the shortest operating time. In short, under simple conditions with self-etching bonding system implementation pit and fissure suggested the preferred compomer; but in the condition of oral topical fluoridation demanded, the glass ionomer can also be considered as another option.
