ObjectiveTo observe the effect of ginger water sponge bath of fatigue, pain, fever and gastrointestinal function recovery after gynecologic abdominal surgery. To evaluate the effect and safety of it being used for improving postoperative fatigue syndrome (POFS) after gynecological abdominal surgery. To search a safe, economic, non-toxic side effects method of Chinese medicine to improve the comfort degree of patients, promote early postoperative rehabilitation and then improve the effect of their qualities of life.MethodsTo select 64 cases of POFS according to the diagnostic criteria, inclusion standard, exclusion criteria and their own will whether to accept. To random group patients into the experimental group and the control group. All patients will be given basic treatment and sponge bath. the test group will be received treatment with ginger water bath, then the control group patients will be given warm sponge bath, each times take about 15-20 minutes, a total of 5 times.then all the effect parameters about fatigue of the cases will be evaluated pre-and-post the treatment.the parameters are including the degree of postoperative fatigue (ICFS and Christensen’s fatigue scores), VAS pain scores, the first time of anus exhausting and getting out of bed and postoperative pyrexia etc. To evaluate the effect and feasibility of ginger water sponge bath in alleviating postoperative fatigue syndrome in patients after gynecologic abdominal surgery, and to explore the preliminary operation process of ginger water bath.ResultsIn the study, there were 64 inpatients enrolled in the department of gynaecology of Guangdong provincial hospital of Chinese medicine.their were divided into the text group and the control group according to random groping. Their were 32 cases in each group. during the study, two patients of test group were excluded.one because of Heart failure, another diabetes, all conditions were well balanced in the two groups, which were including age, marital status, body mass index, occupation, history of past illness, diagnosis, type of operation, operation time, analgesic pump and the degree of fatigue and pain, etc. After the intervention, the degree of fatigue including ICFS scale scores and VAS fatigue score were significant decreased in both groups (P<0.01).compared the control group, the two kinds of fatigue scores at 3、 5 days from the experimental group decreased better after gynecologic abdominal surgery (P<0.05), and they were no significant difference in both groups at 1 day after surgery (P>0.05).With the increase in the course of treatment, the ICFS scale scores and the VAS fatigue difference were significant different in two groups between the first three days (P<0.05), in the 3-5 days, the VAS fatigue difference were significant different but in the ICFS scale scores difference were no significant different (P>0.05).In respect of postoperative pain symptoms, the trend of the VAS pain scores in two groups were fall down as time goes on, which sustained 5 days at least. there were no statistically significant (P>0.05) between the two groups in the first three days. But on the fifth day, the text group were more effective than the control group, and they were significant difference (P<0.05). what is more, the VAS pain scores difference were significant different in two groups between the 1-5 days after surgery. On the aspect of postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function, there was no significant difference for two groups of the first time to ambulation and the total number of days in hospitalization after surgery (P>0.05), but comparing the control group, the control group was more faster for the first time of anal exhaust time, and the efficiency had significant difference in two groups (P<0.05).On the aspect of postoperative fever, comparison with the fever on the day of surgery and the fever days after operation, there were no significant differences in two groups (P>0.05);Yet the highest average temperature of heating after the postoperative was improved after intervention for the text group, compared with the control group, it was significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusion1. After gynecologic abdominal surgery, patients had postoperative fatigue phenomenon, and the duration longer than 5 days at least;with the ginger water sponge bath, the postoperative fatigue syndrome can effectively relieved after gynecological abdominal surgery. On the one hand,it was considered to be related with anti-fatigue and anti-oxidation from flavonoid compounds and polysaccharides within ginger;on the other hand, ginger meridians to the five zang organs and has the effection including coursing the Liver and fortifying the Spleen and harmonizing the Stomach. Moreover, It may be related to alleviating fatigue, improving blood circulation, promoting comfort by sponge bath.2. The ginger water sponge bath can relieve pain effectively in patients after gynecological abdominal surgery, it was considered to be related with the effect of anti-inflammatory and analgesia from the ginger essential oil and the gingerol3. The ginger water sponge bath can promote gastrointestinal function recovery in postoperative patients after the gynecological abdominal surgery, which may be related to ginger’s warming the meridians, strengthening the Spleen and Stomach. Furthermore, sponge bath massage can promote astrointestinal peristalsis and metabolism, which could be another factor.4. The ginger water sponge bath can reduce the average maximum temperature in a certain extent after gynecologic abdominal operation of patients with fever. the effect may be conducted by following two ways. one was that ginger have warming characteristic for dispelling cold, and promoting diaphoresis effectively. Another, using higher than the temperature of the liquid to sponge bath itself is a physical cooling method.
