| ObjectiveThe Stomach Yang Theory was put forward by Ye Tian Shi and formalized in Qing Dynasty. Regarding the theory of Stomach Yang as an important component of the visceral manifestation theory, this paper examines the raised reasons of this theory, and by inferring from the angles of etymology, phonology, and cultural science, concludes that the conception and physiological function of Stomach Yang. Moreover, the relationship between Stomach Yang and five viscera was also discussed in this paper. Taking traditional Chinese Culture into account, this paper attempts to evaluate the significance of the connection between traditional Chinese Medicine and traditional Chinese Culture, so that some theories of Chinese Medicine can get rid of some sorts of confusion.MethodsThe main method using in this paper is a literature review and theoretical study. The logical starting point is the development of Stomach Yang Theory. The second part focuses on the theory background and comparing its conditions in Qing with today’s. The last part illustrates the core concepts of Stomach Yang, summarizes characteristic of Stomach Yang and the relationship between lung, spleen, liver, heart and kidney. It should be noted that the historical material of Stomach Yang theory and the data of ancient astronomical are quite fragmented. Therefore, second-hand materials would be used when the lack of first-hand information.ResultsFirstly, Stomach Yang theory germinated in Internal Classic, and the clinical experience founded in Cold Damage and Golden Chamber.Finally,the foundation of Stomach Yang was in Qing. Secondly, climate, geography, and culture induced the deficiency of Stomach Yang in Qing.Thirdly, Stomach Yang helps stomach downbear the turbid and generate defense qi. Furthermore, Stomach Yang also has the close relationship with five viscera.ConclusionOne of the basic concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine is a correspondence between nature and human. Based on the concept,this article attempts to explore the Stomach Yang theory from traditional Chinese Culture and Literature. Finally, this paper builds the basic theoretical framework of Stomach Yang initially and shows the wealth of academic connotation. |
