Objective:(1)To compare the clinical efficacy of Ultrasoundguided Radio-frequency ablation (RFA) with traditional surgical treatment of benign thyroid nodules; (2) To investigate the clinical significance for the risk assessment before RFA treatment of benign thyroid nodules and effective measures to avoid thermal injury;(3) To investigate the short-term efficacy for the treatment of Ultrasoundguided Radiofr equency ablation.methods:From September,2014 to May,2015,102patients with 165 benign thyroid nodules receive Surgical treatment and consistent with the standard case in Second People’s Hospital of Nanning. All patients were divided in traditional surgery group (56person) and RFA group (46person).Comparing time of operative, hospitlization stays after surgery, hospitalization expens, bood loss, rate of complications, pain scores (VAS) after 24h of the operation, incision score of beauty and recurrence of the nodule between the two operations. Analys and discuss the change of blood perfusion, volume of nodules,VRR and the ablation of different risk nodules for the RFA treatment of nodules.Results:(1)The time of operative, hospitlization stays after surgery, hospitli-zation stays after surgery, bood loss and pain scores (VAS) 24h after operation of RFA groupis shorter than that of traditional surgery group, the difference is statistically significant (P< 0.05).The hospitalization expens and incision score of beauty of RFA group is more than that of traditional surgery group, the difference is statistically significant(p<0.05).The rate of complications occurred in the two groups was not statistically significant (P> 0.05).There is not significant difference in the rate of complications between RFA group and traditional surgery.During a following-up for one year none of patients found local recurrence after surgery.(2)The change of nodules:The average volume of all nodules is (2.67 ± 3.29) ml before RFA,after 1,3,6,12 months, the average volume of nodules respectively (1.65 ±1.90) ml, (0.87 ± 1.11) ml, (0.48± 0.57)ml, (0.42±0.53) ml, the differences were statistically significant(P< 0.05). (3)In the 1,3,6 and 12 months after RFA treatment, the mean volume reduction rates of all nodules were 35.06%,68.94%,83.05%,85.84%, the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.05).(4)A month after RFA, mixed nodules and solid nodules of the volume reduction rate (VRR) were 43.66% and 30.76%, the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).In the subsequent follow-up period, the VRR was not statistically significant.Conclusions:(1)RFA for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules is a safe, effective, micro-invasive and good cosmetic effect method.(2)The risk assessm-ent before RFA ablation thyroid nodules and to use the "liquid isolation method"to preven thermal injury,is good for reducing complicationsrate.(3) Half a year after ablation, ablation area absorpt rapidly and the time is important for evaluating the effectiveness of ablation.
