Objective:To compare efficacy, safety and comfort of low fluence high repetition rate 810 nm diode with high fluence low repetition rate 1064 nm neodymium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser. Methods:Twenty subjects were randomly divided into two groups:group A and group B. Group A received diode laser on right side of their upper lip and an long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser on the other side. Group B received diode laser on left side of their upper lip and long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser on the other side. All the subjects received five monthly treatments at 4-6 weeks intervals. The pain score was recorded after each treatment, and avisual analog scale (VAS) ranging from 0 to 10 to rate the pain was applied. Hair count was recorded at baseline,1-and 3-month follow-up visits and a questionnaire for satisfaction at the second follow-up.Results:Percentage of upper hair reduction at 1-month follow-up visit after receiving diode and Nd:YAG laser treatment were 95% and 90%, respectively, and at 3-month follow-up were 75% and 85%, respectively. There were no significant differences in hair reduction between both laser systems at 1-and 3-month follow-ups (P>0.05). Patients reported lower pain on the diode laser side and higher satisfaction(P<0.05).Conclusions:Low fluence high repetition rate 810nm diode laser in stack mode was as effective and safe as high fluence low repetition rate 1064nm Nd:YAG laser in hair reduction and provided higher patient satisfaction. Additionally, the treatment with low fluence high repetition rate diode laser was found to be less painful and provide higher satisfaction.
