The Ligularia przewalskii(Maxim.) Diels belongs to the genus Ligularia(the tribe Senecioneae Cass, the family Compositae). The genus Ligularia is perennial herbaceous plant and has about 130 species in the world, most of them distribute in Asia, only 2 species found in Europe. There are more than 110 species in China, which are mainly concentrated in the southwest mountainous area. The L. przewalskii mainly distributes in Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Inner Mongolia in P.R.China. The roots, stems and leaves of most Ligularia plants can be used as traditional folk medicine for relieving cough, resolving phlegm, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, clearing heat and toxins, moistening lung, giving emetic and diuresis, and treating jaundice. The roots of Ligularia przewalskii can be used for cough, phlegm, asthma in Qinghai Province, Tianshui and Wenxian of Gansu Province, Baoji, Meixian, and Taibai of Shanxi Province in China. In this thesis, we made phytochemical studies on the whole plants of L. przewalskii from Huzhu County, Qinghai province. Thirty-one compounds including two new compounds, a cycloartane-type triperpene saponin and a olean-type triperpene saponin, were isolated based on various separation techniques, including silica gel column chromatography, preparative thin layer chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 chromatography, MCI chromatography, and high performance liquid chromatography. The compounds were elucidated as seven sesquiterpennoids(two eremophilane-type, two eudesmane-type, two nor-carbon eudesmane-type sesquiterpenes, one cadinane-type sesquiterpenoids), one benzofuran, three labdane-type diterpenes, two triperpenes saponin, eight sterols, three flavonoids, one benzene derivative, two quinic acid derivatives, and four long chain fatty acids, using extensive spectroscopic studies, including 1D and 2D NMR(1H、13C-NMR、DEPT、1H-1H COSY、HMBC、HSQC、NOESY), UV, IR, HRESIMS, and in combination with comparison to the literature data or standard samples. This thesis reviewed on the structures and bioactivities of the cadinane-type sesquiterpene published among recent twenty years from 1996 to 2016.I sincerely hope this thesis of the phytochemistry can benefit utilizing and developing chinese herbal medicine, provide scientific basis for the research of new drugs, and may make a contribution for riching the natural plant resources of our country.
