Ligularia, belonging in the family Compositae, compositae is a dicotyledonous plant, the first major branch of the chrysanthemum. There are more than 1000 genus and 27,000 species of Compositae in the world, which are widely distributed in the world and relatively less distributed in the tropics, its root is often used as medicine in the name of aster.According to reports in the literature, the chemical constituents of the Ligularia Cass are diverse, and the main chemical components are sesquiterpenes.Ligularia cymbulifera is a perennial herb,it is produced in northwest Yunnan, southwest Sichuan to northwest Sichuan, and is born in wasteland, forest margin, alpine shrub and other places with altitude of 3000-4800 meters.Because of its special geographical growth environment and distribution area,in order to further study of chemical composition of the Ligularia cymbulifera, the extract of 95%ethanol of the radix of Ligularia cymbulifera was carried on separation by a series of spectroscopy technology, twenty compounds were isolated from the plant. As results,13 compounds were isolated and identified by spectroscopic methods, including four sesquiterpenes(1-4),two coumarins(5,6),two lignans(7,8),two aromatic(9,13),two monoterpenes(10,11)one glucoside(12),these 13 compounds belong to the first discovery from Ligularia cymbulifera. This study provides a reference for the further study of its chemical constituents, and also provides a basis for the next study of the plant's activity. In addition, the research progress of chemical constituents of Ligularia in Compositae was reviewed in this paper.
