Objective To investigate the characteristic expressions of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E(e IF4E) and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP9) in endometrial carcinoma and study the correlation between the expression and the clinical significance of endometrial carcinoma. Methods eIF4 E and MMP9 were detected by immunohistochemical method in 16 cases of normal endometrial tissues, 10 cases of endometrial hyperplasia and 42 cases of endometrial carcinoma to analyze their expression characteristics. The correlation between the expression and the clinical pathological features of endometrial carcinoma was also analyzed. Results 1. The positive expression rate of e IF4 E and MMP9 increased statistically in normal endometrial tissues, hyperplasia endometrium and endometrial carcinoma, the differences between the three groups were statistically significant(P<0.05). And there were statistically significant differences between normal endometrial tissues and endometrial carcinoma(P<0.0167).2. The expression levels of e IF4 E and MMP9 were closely correlated with the FIGO stage, histological grade and lymph metastasis(P<0.05).3. The expression of e IF4 E was positively correlated with the expression of MMP9 in endometrial carcinoma(r=0.717,p<0.05).Conclusions The expression of e IF4 E and MMP9 has a close relationship with the occurrence, invasion and metastasis of endometrial carcinoma. The combined detection of e IF-4E and MMP9 may have a potential use in the diagnosis and the prediction of prognosis of endometrial carcinoma.
