Objective: The aim of our study was to explored morbidity of Uygur children with dyslexia and its potential environmental risk factors, for further providing a theoretical basis for prevention and treatment. Methods: Using stratified cluster sampling, totally 3508 Uygur children in grade 3 to 5 who were from 23 primary schools in the Kashgar and Aksu districts of Xinjiang province were selected. A descriptive analysis,Chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression were used to reveal the potential risk factors for dyslexia. Results: 1.There were 207 Uygur children being found to be dyslexia. The prevalence rate of uygur children with dyslexia was 5.9%.Among dyslexic children, there were more boys(144) compared to girls(63). There was significant difference for prevalence rates to gender(p < 0.05). 2.Single factor analysis showed socioeconomic status(e.g., income of family per month, parents’ occupation, and parents’ education level), pregnancy, children feel pressure and difficulty to finish homework, children dislike study, and home reading environment(e.g.,frequency of parents telling stories, reading and writing training, learning musical instruments) affected uygur children with dyslexia(P<0.05). 3.The multivariate logistic regression revealed that the risk factors to dyslexia including boys(OR=2.171), income of family per month was less than 1000 Yuan(OR=2.209),father’s education level was junior high school or below(OR=4.282), children dislike study(OR=1.556),difficulty in finishing homework(OR=1.672);and the protocol factors to dyslexia including mother’s Uygur language score in primary school was medium or above(OR=0.286), scheduled reading time(OR=0.364).Conclusion: 1.The prevalence rate of Uygur children with dyslexia was common. Dyslexia should received attention by some researchers such as social medicine, psychology, linguistics, and neuroimaging. 2.There was significant differences for prevalence rates according to gender. Among children with dyslexia, there were more boys compared to girls. To cultivate one’s taste in reading abilities and interest, educators and parents should be more concerned school-age boys. 3.Socioeconomic condition and home reading environment affected uygur children with dyslexia. For Uygur children, parents improved their economic conditions, creatting a good learning environment, and developping good reading habits to prevent and intervene dyslexic children.
